Good news for Florence + The Machine fans: a new album, called Everybody Screams, is set to drop on October 31 just in time for Halloween.
Multiple visuals accompany this album. Some inspirations include the times when the band’s lead singer, Florence Welch, felt fear of putting herself out there. These visuals offer a glimpse into the next installment, filled with fear.
“There’s always a bit of me that wants to keep hiding like ‘no no no I’m not ready, put it off,’ this time I challenge myself not to delay a record. I was like, ‘Just move through the fear and put it out.’ The song itself is about the pull back to the stage and why I always keep going back there, even though every time it takes a little bit more from me,” Welch said in an interview.
Not only is the new installment filled with spooky visuals, but it’s full of energy. Since August, the band has countlessly teased their audience about this album. Welch, in particular, shared more details and motivations behind some of her new work. The album was a collaborative effort by Isabella Summers, Rob Ackroyd, and Tom Monger. Other collaborations involve Miky, Mark Bowen, and Aaron Dessner.
One of the album’s influences allegedly comes from the life-saving surgery that Welch had to undergo while on tour in 2023. She recently spoke with The Guardian about the incident. In August of that year, she suffered a miscarriage, and days later, the pregnancy was ectopic. The fallopian tube ended up rupturing, causing internal bleeding.
“The closest I came to making life was the closest I came to death and I felt like I had stepped through this door and it was just full of women screaming,” Welch explained.
This was during the time when she and her boyfriend were trying for a baby, and it was also her first pregnancy and her first miscarriage.
The album comprises 12 tracks. Of the tracks, One Of The Greats, has been released. On the album cover, Welch is depicted with red hair wrapped around her face, dressed in heavy clothing, and sitting on a couch. The dark undertones evoke a spooky vibe, which is fitting for the album being released.
Each track was revealed to the fans, one song at a time, in handwritten calligraphy. Currently all 12 songs are now posted to Welch’s Instagram. On October 14, Florence and the Machine will host a screening of the album’s visuals. The screening will take place in London, where the band will provide a Q&A session about the album, visuals, and imagery.
