Kim Kardashian Files For Divorce From Kanye West

For weeks speculation surrounding Kim Kardashian West’s pending divorce has been in a plethora of news headlines, sparking debates on Twitter on whether the power couple were genuinely separating.

The speculation was confirmed when reality star icon Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from her hip-hop superstar husband Kanye West this Wednesday. After 6 1/2 years of marriage and four children later, the famous ‘Kimye’ union is ending.

According to AP News, “Kardashian is seeking joint custody of the children and her filing states the couple have a prenuptial agreement that will determine how their assets will be divided. It cites irreconcilable differences for their breakup and does not list a separation date.”

After the power couple wedded in 2014, Ms. Kim and Mr. Kanye have been a controversial spectacle. Aspects of the West’s marital journey were publicized on Kim Kardashian’s hit reality television show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” and sometimes through social media posts. Those more attuned to keeping up with the West’s likely remember the idyllic moments in their marriage in addition to the most contentious.

Kanye West publicly revealing how Kim Kardashian contemplated aborting their oldest daughter North West during a political rally was just one of the few jabs to their marriage. Between Mr. West’s mental health issues, antagonistic twitter rants and egregious run for president in the 2020 election, it would have been more of a surprise if their marriage were to survive.

During the later half of their marriage the West’s impending divorce became more evident and their current separation apparent.

“It has been months since the couple have been seen together,” according to Evening Standard. “In December, it was reported that the couple were “still together” but “living separate lives” and he was not seen in any of the Kardashian family Christmas photos”

Kanye West also took to Twitter in July of 2020, addressing the divorce hearsay in a stream of now deleted tweets.  Kanye disclosed that he had been “trying to get divorced” from Ms. Kim after he found out that she met with rapper Meek Mill at the Waldorf Hotel in 2018, implying an infidelity occurred. Although the meeting between Kim and Meek was a business lunch to discuss prison reform, Mr. West still deemed the meeting “out of line.”

Although the West’s have had some turmoil during their marriage, it is unfortunate that their love couldn’t weather the storm. The famous couple you either loved or loved to hate has concluded their journey, and the era of ‘Kimye’ is officially over.
