Blue Ivy Carter is on her way to becoming a legend in her own right as she dips her feet in the acting pool with the help of Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. Soon, Beyonce and Jay-Z’s world-famous, Grammy-winning 12-year-old daughter will make her debut on the silver screen in the upcoming Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King.
Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King is the backstory film for the 2019 photorealistic movie remake of The Lion King, initially released in 1994 as a cartoon. The Jenkins-produced motion picture delves into the life of the powerful male lion Mufasa, exploring his childhood, which includes the dynamic between his brother Taka, aka Scar, who was his fatal adversary in The Lion King.
Bringing this photorealistic follow-up to life with their voices are Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr., who will voice the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively, Variety reported Monday. Blue Ivy is also a part of the voice cast and will portray Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala, as well as the granddaughter of Mufasa, who is King Simba’s father. Beloved actor James Earl Jones was the iconic voice behind Mufasa in 1994 and 2019 before the torch was passed to Pierre in 2024. Jeremy Irons held down the role of Scar in 1994, but Chiwetel Ejiofor took over in 2019.
Many of the entertainers who were a part of the voice cast for the 2019 Lion King reboot are returning for Mufasa: The Lion King. This includes John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyonce as Nala. Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the 2019 version of The Lion King, is set to write Mufasa: The Lion King, the news publication revealed.
After the trailer for the 2024 movie was released on Monday, fans immediately began obsessing online over Blue Ivy’s involvement in the film. A few hours after the teaser premiered, countless people started predicting on X, which used to be Twitter, that the pre-teen was on her way to becoming an EGOT title-holder. People only get the EGOT title if they have these four coveted awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.
Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Elton John, Jennifer Hudson, and Viola Davis are just a few of the notable celebrities who are EGOT winners. So far, Blue Ivy holds a Grammy award, winning the Best Music Video category in 2021 at the age of 9 for her collaboration with her mother, Beyonce, and WizKid for Brownskin Girl, a song on The Lion King (2019) soundtrack. Many believe that Mufasa: The Lion King will move Blue Ivy closer to accomplishing EGOT status.
“Blue Ivy is on way to become an EGOT winner. We love to see it,” one X user claimed.
“BLUE IVY COMING FOR HER EGOT STATUS,” a second person declared.
“Blue Ivy already got a Grammy for Brown Skin Girl. Maybe we can wishfully hope she gets an Oscar too for Mufasa. Furthering her journey to EGOT status,” this person noted.
Many more theorized the exact point in time when they thought that the young star would reach EGOT status.
“Blue Ivy getting EGOT status before 18,” another theorized.
“Blue Ivy will be EGOT by the time she’s 30 at this rate,” a separate fan shared.
“Blue Ivy will be a EGOT before she turns 21,” someone else mentioned.
Mufasa: The Lion King will be in theaters on December 20, 2024.
