Outback Steakhouse, the Florida-based steak franchise founded in 1988, has closed multiple locations.
The decision was made by the Outback Steakhouse restaurant franchise’s parent company, Bloomin’ Brands. According to The Streets website, 40 locations have shut their doors. This takes Outback Steakhouses from a total of 660 locations nationwide to 620, a roughly 6% decrease in branches feeding their hungry customers.
The franchise closed its Wyoming location in Evansville on August 23, leaving a note thanking customers for their support over the last 21 years.
In addition, the Outback Steakhouse at 2400 Boston Street in Baltimore closed on October 11. Though there are other branches in the state, the closure removes a restaurant that has been serving the public for two decades. While there are many factors that can affect their profits, one issue that has been hitting hard is the rising beef prices.
Despite the series of restaurant closures of the restaurants, CEO Mike Spanos has released the earnings that the chain has brought in for the parent company during its second quarter.
Speaking on Bloomin’ Brands’ financial publicly released results, he said, “I am pleased with our financial results in the second quarter and our continued progress on the Outback Turnaround.”
This is not Bloomin’ Brands’ only business as they also have Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and another steakhouse in the form of Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar under them.
