It turns out Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and Chappell Roan have a song that can help save a life. Don’t believe it?
Then get this: Roan’s hit song Pink Pony Club is 107 beats per minute and it can be used for hands-only CPR, according to the American Heart Association (AHA).
“Congratulations to Best New Artist @ChappellRoan! We’re gonna keep on dancin’ and savin’ lives to Pink Pony Club,” the AHA wrote in an Instagram post on February 5 to celebrate Roan’s win at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
On February 3, the AHA also revealed that Lamar’s smash single Not Like Us is 101 beats per minute.
“Mustard in the beat,” they wrote on another Instagram post. “And it could help you save a life with Hands-Only CPR. If you see a teen or adult collapse, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the rhythm of Not Like Us.”
After Beyoncé took home Album of the Year at this year’s Grammys, the AHA revealed her latest album’s hit Texas Hold ‘Em is the perfect tempo for hands-on CPR at 110 beats per minute.
“Park your Lexus and throw your keys up [because] @Beyonce finally got that Album of the Year win,” the AHA captioned in a more recent Instagram post on February 5. “So crank up ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ and remember that if you see a teen or adult collapse, Hands-Only CPR is your best chance to save their life.”
Rewinding to April 2024, the AHA shared that Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, could help save a life just as well. They confirmed the song, The Tortured Poets Department, features the exact tempo of 110 beats per minute for hands-on CPR.
“So double the chances for songs with lifesaving beats,” read the AHA’s Instagram post from April 19.
Even the Bee-Gees song Stayin’ Alive has notably served as the go-to reference song for hands-on CPR. However, the British Heart Association (BHA) previously shared that Swift’s ex Matt Healy’s band, The 1975, also had a song with 110 beats per minute. In October 2022, the BHA shared the band’s 2016 hit song, Somebody Else, which also works for hands-on CPR.
Some of Charli XCX’s songs from her latest album, Brat, are also perfect for hands-on CPR. This shows that music can be essential if appropriately used.
“A quarter of people who have a heart attack don’t make it to the hospital in the first place and we know that survival rates for cardiac arrest can be greatly improved with bystander CPR,” said Professor Stephen Nicholls, Director of the Victorian Heart Institute and the Victorian Heart Hospital, according to Monash University.
