Spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon.
Season 3 of House of the Dragon is promising some big battle scenes. The upcoming battle includes Daemon’s (Matt Smith) story, which shows him picking a side and bowing to Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). In the preview, some major war scenes were shown to pique viewers’ interest as the second season ended on Sunday night.
Showrunner Ryan Condal teases that there will be even more blood shed in the upcoming season.
“While this season was very much about the fits and starts of an early medieval war, season 3 is clearly going to be about total war,” Condal revealed.
During Season 2, Daemon is forced to face his future, having many wild dreams and visions and making the decision to go with Team Black. Viewers may have noticed familiar scenes to the show’s predecessor Game Of Thrones, including the Three-Eyed Raven, dead dragons, The Night King and the White Walkers.
The end of Season 2 also shows Alicent (Oliva Cooke) and Rhaneyra in a secret meeting, where Alicent agrees to sacrifice a family member. Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) is briefly shown, appearing to be locked in a prison cell. New Dragonriders Ulf (Tom Bennett), Hugh (Kieran Bew) and Addam (Clinton Liberty) are adjusting to their new normal.
A type of cameo from a popular Game Of Thrones character has fans buzzing as well. In a brief scene, Daemon sees his ancestor Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) from the future in a vision. Daenerys is shown with her back to the camera, naked and emerging from a fire unharmed, joined by her baby dragons, a scene originally made famous in the season 1 finale of Game Of Thrones.
Fans of the show however, are disappointed in the ending of season 2 in what they deem a disappointing finale.
On X, “That season of House of the Dragon could’ve been an email.” Another X user, “Episode 1= war is about to happen. Episode 8 = war is about to happen.”
House of the Dragon began on HBO two years ago, after the huge success seen with Game Of Thrones. A spin-off was inevitable, and tells the story of the family some 200 years before. Based on the novel Fire And Blood by George R.R. Martin, House of the Dragon has won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series as well as received a nomination for Best Actress.
Nine Emmy Awards have been bestowed on the series, including Outstanding Drama Series. Season 3 will likely be released in summer 2026.
