Anticipation for the pressure-cooking show The Bear that cleaned up this awards season is set to debut at the end of the month and star Ayo Edebiri scratched her directing itch with her debut this season.
The Inside Out 2 star dished to Entertainment Tonight about her experience directing an episode of a show about cooking that has everyone hungry for more.
“I love the crew, I love our cast, but getting to work with them on that level and in that way was like really moving,” Edebiri told ET.
The Bear creator, Christopher Storer, recognized her directing potential and insisted that Edebiri step behind the camera.
“The first time I met Chris, I was 21, and he was like, ‘You’re a director.’ I was like, ‘Mind your business, bro,'” she told Vogue earlier this year. After a little bit of pressure from Storer, 43, Edebiri says she caught the bug. “I was like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah, I think I want to do this.'”
Edebiri won the hearts of audiences as Sydney Adamu, the charming and hard-working sous chef, and now financial partner of the up-and-coming restaurant in Chicago. The Bear immediately became a hit, partially because of Edebiri’s character Sydney, earning 13 Emmy nominations and 10 wins, which gave Edebiri her first Emmy win for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.
Edebiri plays opposite Jeremy Allen’s character, Carmy, who takes on the tense pressure cooking experience of owning and operating a successful business. There are already many predictions of what type of ride viewers need to be prepared for this coming season.
Last year, we watched The Bear undergo a remodel and how it affected all its characters. Carmy’s personal life took on a remodel as he reconnected with a crush and started a life outside the restaurant. Edebiri’s character went through her remodeling as she stepped out of the restaurant, and we got to see her explore Chicago and the charm of the city’s staple, which is food.
Edebiri’s character made her a TV darling as we watched her rise against Allen’s character’s intensity as the head chef. Fans predict different outcomes this season that show how much we love Sydney. ScreenRant said that Sydney stepping up last season as lead chef after Carmy locked himself in the refrigerator “shows her leadership skills” and how that might challenge Carmy.
Edebiri directs episode 6 of this season, which is titled “Napkins”. We’re unsure of what this season will cook up but best believe we’ll be waiting for the mouth-watering drama.
Season 3 of The Bear will premiere June 27 on FX and Hulu.
