Issa Rae is always on the move, branching out into new projects and making money moves. The “Insecure” creator has given us five seasons of an epic dramedy that catered to Black millennials, a booming record label with stellar artists and a hilarious sketch comedy show.
Come 2022 Rae will be expanding her resume, and fiIm credits, portraying the one-and-only Spider-Woman in the forthcoming animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” sequel. Rae will be starring alongside Shameik Moore, who plays Miles Morales, and Hailee Steinfield, who will play Spider-Gwen.
The sequel to “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers—best known for “Soul” and “One Night in Miami”—and Justin K. Thompson. Rae has always been a fan of the Spider-Man culture, making her being casted as Spider-Woman the right move for the movie filmmakers.
“Rae’s love for the comic book superhero dates back to her years as a child. “Since the third grade, I’ve loved Spider-Man, comic books, memorabilia, everything,” Issa Rae told Variety back in February,” as noted by Baller Alert. Rae’s debut in the Spider-Verse will be released on Oct. 7, 2022, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Just because “Insecure” has stopped, doesn’t mean that Rae has. In addition to landing the animated role of Spider-Woman, Rae will also be continuing executive-producing “A Black Lady’s Sketch Show” and her new unscripted reality show “Sweet Life.” Rae is on a roll, and it’s nothing but up for the 36-year-old actor, writer and producer.
