Roddy Ricch Faces Drug Abuse Scandal After American Music Awards Win

The 2020 American Music Awards included nominations for amazing music artists like Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, and more. First-time American Music Awards nominations then included Megan Thee Stallion, Da Baby, and Doja Cat.

With COVID-19 regulations still in place at the time, that year’s AMAs were virtual. The virtual 2020 AMAs featured many of our favorite artists going category for category. The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch were tied for the most AMA nominations this year, both acquiring eight each. Da Baby, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, and Doja Cat are also tied, bringing in four nominations each.

First-time nominees Doja Cat and Da Baby were both up for new artist of the year, alongside Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby, Meg Thee Stallion, and Lewis Capaldi. Meanwhile, first-time nominee Meg Thee Stallion earned five nods, making the rapper the most nominated female artist this year.

Roddy Ricch ended up taking home an AMA in 2020 for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop album for his LP, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial.

After his win, the rapper was embroiled in controversy in 2023 when he was accused of abusing drugs to so much that it concerned his baby mama.

At the time, his baby mother, Alexandra Kiser, filed for custody of their then 3-year-old son, Kadence, alleging that Roddy was addicted to lean, and was gang-affiliated. She wanted the rapper to pay child support because she claimed he was an absentee father, according to Hot New Hip-Hop.

“Rodrick Moore is gang-affiliated,” Alex filed in court against him, referring to Roddy’s birth name. “He has been arrested on a gun charge, domestic violence and regularly indulges in promethazine use. All of which are concerns for myself and our son. (He) is a very successful and highly paid entertainer who goes by the name of Roddy Ricch. He has a net worth of approximately $25,000,000 [and] commands fees of $500,000 for appearances. Since his birth, I alone, spend 98% of the time with him while Rodrick lives his life without any regard to his parental obligation or responsibility to spend time with Kadence. Recently, he moved into the gated compound where he has leased the house where our son and I currently live and has only spent three full days with Kadence thus far and that has been since January/early February.”

She continued: “He now asks if I could move out by this May or if he’ll give me a six-month extension to move after I expressed to him that I felt uncomfortable about the way he moved into our gated community, just mere houses from us, and then tried to keep it a secret.”

Despite facing controversy, Roddy is still making music, with his upcoming album, The Navy Album, coming out on October 24, 2025. With any lucky, it might be nominated for an AMA.

The next AMAs is set to air during Memorial Day weekend on Monday, May 25 2026, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Billboard reports a new five-year deal between CBS and Dick Clark Productions to broadcast the awards show on CBS and stream it live on Paramount+.

This comes at the success of the 2025 AMAs for reaching more than 10 million viewers across its CBS premiere and encores on MTV, CMT, and BET. This year’s CBS broadcast marked the show’s largest audience since 2019, with a 38% increase over its last live airing in 2022 on ABC.
