Thanks to Jeff Bezos, The Apprentice 2024 film starring Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong won’t be the only property streaming on under that title.
On Monday, Amazon announced it would be streaming the first seven seasons of The Apprentice (2004-2017) on Amazon Prime Video. The TV Series was sold in 2014 by creator Mark Burnett to MGM Studios, which Bezos acquired for over $9 billion three years ago.
The deal marks the second collaboration between the Trump family and Bezos’ streaming service. In January, Amazon announced a “behind-the-scenes” documentary about Melania Trump, with the First Lady credited as an executive producer.
On Monday, the same day Amazon Prime Video announced it would be streaming The Apprentice. When the reality TV star became the Republican nominee for President in 2016, former stars from The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice came forward regarding Mr. Trump’s alleged abusive behavior on set. Most notably, multiple sources told The Huffington Post that Trump eliminated Khloe Kardashian after allegedly referring to the star as a “piglet.”
An editor on The Apprentice said, “He basically wanted to just get rid of her. He called her a ‘piglet.’” Trump also reportedly asked: “What is this? We can’t even get the hot one?” ―in reference to Kardashian’s sister, Kim Kardashian.
After his inauguration in 2017, President Trump was hit with a defamation suit from former cast member Summer Zervos, after he called her accusations of sexual misconduct “false and ridiculous, external.” In response, Zervos called the President a “liar and misogynist” who “debased and denigrated” her in a press conference.
Unaired footage from The Celebrity Apprentice was once at the center of a civil fraud case against the Trump family in 2020, in which the current President promoted a multi-level marketing scheme.
For those who have never watched either The Apprentice or The Celebrity Apprentice NBC series, when the sister show aired, it was like any other competition reality show of the time. Leading up to the 2024 election, a former producer of both The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice, Bill Pruitt, celebrated the end of his 20-year-long NDA by writing about his experience in Slate.
“We played fast and loose with the facts, particularly regarding Trump, and if you were one of the 28 million who tuned in, chances are you were conned,” said Pruitt.
