Mac Miller Surpasses Prince In Vinyl Album Sales

There is still life after death for Mac Miller as his being remains on through his music. Even after his passing in 2018, the late Pittsburgh rapper is still blowing up on the music charts, rising to the top position as his 2014 mixtape “Faces” has become streamable and put on vinyl.

Shortly after the commercial debut of “Faces” on streaming platforms and on vinyl on Oct.15, the 24-track mixtape has ranked No. 3 on Top Album Sales and broken vinyl sales records. Miller’s divine hip hop mixtape, which was released for free in 2014, had the largest sales week on vinyl for a R&B/Hip Hop effort since MRC Data began tracking sales in 1991, according to Billboard. 

“Faces” was exemplary when it first dropped almost 8 years ago, but as of 2021 it has become legendary. Miller’s “Faces” has surpassed Prince’s “Welcome 2 America”—Prince’s posthumous album that had the largest sales week back in August for a R&B/Hip Hop set on vinyl since 1991, according to Billboard.

Not only has Miller surpassed Prince, but he has also surpassed himself. Until the commercial release of “Faces,” the last rap album that had the largest sales week on vinyl since 1991 was Miller’s “Circles,” which charted back in 2020, according to Billboard. 

Posthumously Miller is still accomplishing music honors, making his fans and city proud.

“Faces also arrives at No. 3 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Top Rap Albums and the all-genre Billboard 200, as well as at No. 2 on Tastemaker Albums. (The latter ranks the top-selling albums of the week at independent and small-chain record stores.).” according to Billboard. 

Since Miller’s passing, fans everywhere have kept him alive in spirit through their continuous support of his music. Miller was an integral part of hip hop, standing out substantially among many other talented hip hop artists.
