Walt Disney Corporation’s latest, freshly inked deal has to do with video streaming in collaboration with iHeartMedia Inc, a mass media corporation.
They are planning to air a series of video podcast shows on their Hulu and Disney+ streaming services. This isn’t Disney’s first time working with podcasts by any stretch of the imagination. The media titan has had a few other hits that they’ve successfully managed, such as with their WDW Radio which has a whole slew of content such as LIVE video, audio tours, and events, amongst other things.
Mousestalgia! is for discussion of the multitude of their best, past hit franchises. The Disney Dish with Jim Hill is a podcast that dives into the latest breaking Disney news, historical facts about the company or its media, and behind-the-scenes information just to name a few topics that they’ve covered.
The first on the list to be released for their collaborative work will be Hey Jonas!, set for an August 14 debut. The other ones slated to start are Pod Meets World, Desperately Devoted, Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald, StraightioLab, and Thanks Dad with Ego Nwodim.
Hey Jonas! will focus on the future by tying in with the Camp Rock franchise, Camp Rock 3. The podcast will feature the Jonas brothers, Nick, Kevin, and Joe talking about their lives and their experiences in the music industry.
Though not all of these will have a tie-in to other media that’s being released, Pod Meets World and Desperately Desperate are meant to be retrospectives of shows like Boy Meets World, and Desperate Housewives, respectively.
The deal, as Bob Pittman, the chairman and CEO for iHeartMedia had put it, “Podcasting continues to evolve as audiences increasingly want to engage with the shows and personalities they love in more ways and across more platforms.”
It shows a forward-thinking approach to an ever-changing landscape, as well as a mindset for expansion.
“Disney+ and Hulu have built powerful streaming destinations with incredibly passionate fan communities, making them ideal partners to expand the reach of these beloved iHeartPodcasts,” Pittman added.
Disney’s also got other projects brewing, such as Percy Jackson and The Olympians Season 3, though they’re being very careful to be sure that nothing leaks about other future actions they may decide to take.
