Streaming sites used to feel like freedom. You ditched cable, grabbed Netflix, and suddenly had endless shows at your fingertips.
Fast forward to 2025, and now it feels like every week another company is asking for $9.99 to “unlock” your favorite sitcom. So.. which service is actually the best thing for your money?
On Reddit’s r/television forum, users weighed in on which service they felt was the strongest overall.
If there’s one consensus, it’s that Max continues to dominate when it comes to prestige TV. From Succession to The Last of Us, the service’s catalog of critically acclaimed series is difficult to beat. As one commented put it bluntly: “For quality television: Max.” Translation? When you want to feel like your taste is better than everyone else’s, Max is the flex.
Netflix gets clowned a lot, but seriously, it’s still the one we can’t unsubscribe from. One minute is watching a German thriller movie and then the next is a reality show filmed on a yacht.
A Redditor noted the memorable content as a strength, saying it wins “for sheer volume of content (and nostalgia binges).”
Hulu fills a different niche. With next-day access to network programming, it’s become the go-to for those who want to keep up with current shows without paying for cable. As one user summed it up: “Hulu for next-day TV + a solid mix of movies.”
Apple TV+ has nowhere near the volume of Netflix or Hulu, but its selective catalog has drawn attention for its consistency. For some, the service embodies a quality-over-quantity model. One commenter contrasted it simply: “Quality: AppleTV+. Library: Netflix.”
So the real winner out of all this? Nobody. Or maybe everybody.
The real winner is whichever platform happens to have the one show you’re obsessed with right now.
Max slays for prestige, Netflix feeds the binge monster, Hulu keeps you current, Apple TV+ has some sprinkles in quality, and the rest try to grab your attention.
