Just days after performing at the New Orleans Super Bowl Halftime Show alongside singer SZA, actor Samuel L. Jackson, who played Uncle Sam, followed by dancing Tennis Star Serena Williams, Kendrick Lamar is still having his moment. Like his songs, Lamar’s clothes—his jeans in particular—are going viral.
Lamar settled on a custom-made varsity jacket from British Designer Martine Rose. The front of the jacket bears the name “Gloria,” referencing a song on his album GNX. He wore a black shirt, a baseball hat, and a diamond necklace with the letter “a” on it. Some viewers speculated that the necklace was a nod to the “a minor” from his hit song, Not Like Us.
While performing a mix of his classics, some new songs from his recent album, and the award-winning diss track towards Drake, the jeans from French fashion house Celine sparked debates on whether bell bottoms were making a comeback. Just two minutes into his performance, Google searches for bell bottoms and flare jeans started, strengthening the claims that Western wear is officially returning.
“I think Kendrick Lamar’s jeans are the real MVP,” a person commented on X (fka Twitter). “I love the cut.”
Made by Hedi Slimane, the $1,300 mid-rise, five-pocket style Celine flared surf jeans in summer dazed wash denim have sold out in under two days. However, a 40% off dupe is still in stock. The nearly identical look, the Purple Brand coated flare-leg leans, is currently being sold on Nordstom.com.
“Kendrick Lamar donned Hedi Slimane’s flared jeans for Celine during his performance at the Super Bowl 2025 halftime show, highlighting the enduring influence of Slimane’s designs.” Hedi wrote on their Instagram post.
Those jeans Lamar wore are a sign of Western wear returning. It was also initially produced as a tribute to French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. The faded jeans sat low on Lamar’s waist and ended in a flare. A blending of 99% cotton and 1% elastane gives them a structure that gives them a flexible shape. Like the original jeans, these also have a five-pocket style.
Like western wear, flare jeans are currently back in style for men. Some popular flare jeans that are under $200 are making their rounds. Initially $248, the 7 for all Mankind Austyn Airweft Relaxed Straight Leg Jeans are now $186 (25% off). Next, we have the Purple Brand heavyweight Fleece Flare Leg Pants (30% off). These Purple Brand pants were originally $265 but are now $168.
These jeans are currently on sale on Nordstom.com.
