Lourdes León, The daughter of Madonna and Carlos León, expressed herself clearly at 2025 Paris Fashion Week by embracing the Free the Nipple movement.
Sitting in the front row of the Saint Laurent Menswear Autumn Winter 2025/2026 runway show, 28-year-old León paired a black strapless lace catsuit with matching G-string underwear and a black leather coat that stayed draped mostly on one shoulder. She finished off the look with gold jewelry and black stilettos.
León, who goes by the name Lola, is known for her bold individuality. She has appeared in runway shows and and has modeled for Rhianna’s Savage x Fenty line, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, and Swarovski. León walked in Milan Fashion Week 2021 and starred recently in David Koma’s Resort 2025 campaign.
“She is the perfect representation of the Koma Girl – a complex character who is tough yet sensual, free yet controlled, and youthful yet mature,” said Koma. “Watching her move as a professional dancer on set was mesmerizing; she looked sophisticated and elegant while exuding an almost animalistic grace.”
Not all reviews of León’s barely-there style have been so favorable. “It looked as if she’d just pulled the waistband of her tights all the way up to under her armpits,” wrote Alexandria Dale, Digital Fashion Writer for Cosmopolitan UK.
A similar look was spotted on singer-actress Rina Sawayama’s at Saint Laurent’s spring 2025 ready-to-wear show, although she wore her leather topper across both shoulders, offering more nipple coverage. A-list actresses from Bianca Censori and Anne Hathaway to Rhianna have been rocking the naked dressing trend, which sprang from the 2012 Free the Nipple movement.
“You see, it’s much more than just a feminist rallying cry, says fashion writer Ipsita Kaul. “This decade-old movement’s essence lay in its noble yearning to stop the rampant sexualization of anything remotely related to women.
The Free the Nipple movement gained even more traction with the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022. “The trend toward nudity reflects both the return of ’90s-era fashion trends — when risqué looks, low-rise jeans, and an obsession with weight loss were prominent — and a social moment when proud femininity is rising to meet political changes like a backsliding on reproductive rights,” said writer Danny Parisi on the fashion website Glossy. Don’t expect the Free the Nipple movement to be a passing fad.
“We’ve seen transparent and see-through clothing take over red carpets and fashion runways this year with more seductive, layered looks,” said Megan Gokey, head of B2C marketing for North America and the U.K. at fintech company Klarna, which tracks fashion trends through its purchase data. According to Klarna’s data, sales of sheer dresses and skirts are up 82% in the last year.
