It’s the year of the woman at Spotify as the year-end streaming results are out. Topping the list, should be of no surprise is Taylor Swift. With a massive 2024 considering the phenomenon of The Eras Tour as well as the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, Swift is at the peak of her game.
Spotify released the list yesterday, and most of the top 10 album spots are occupied by female artists. Behind Swift at number 2 is Billie Eilish with her Hit Me Hard And Soft album, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet at number 3. Coming in at the number 4 spot is Karol G with Mañana Sera Bonito, and Ariana Grande at number 5 with Eternal Sunshine.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 albums are 1989 (Taylor’s Version) by Swift, SOS by SZA, number 8 is Swift again with Lover. The last two spots on the list go to male artists with newcomer Benson Boone with Fireworks & Rollerblades at 9 and The Weeknd’s Starboy.
To earn the spot on the list is no easy feat, considering Swift took number 1 with more than 26 billion streams overall. In just one day, Tortured Poet’s Department broke a Spotify record with 300 million streams. In fact, Swift’s album not only broke the streaming service’s record, but it shattered her own by over 100 million streams. The previous record was for her Midnights album and her release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Certainly, these numbers easily placed Swift at the top spot for biggest global streaming artist. Behind her are The Weeknd, Bad Bunny and Drake. Other songs that made their mark are Espresso by Carpenter with over 1.5 billion streams, Beautiful Things by Boone, and Eilish’s Birds Of A Feather at number 3.
Swift’s domination of pop culture continues with the release of a collectible book she just released on Black Friday. The Official The Eras Tour book is only available at Target and in one week alone, moved 814 thousand copies. The only other non-fiction book to sell that many copies was President Barrack Obama’s book A Promised Land in 2020 which sold 816 thousand copies in its first week of release. The book includes over 500 photographs of Swift on The Eras Tour, behind the scenes and includes insight from the star about her time on the road during what is now the biggest selling concert tour of all time. The tour brought in over a billion dollars and ends its 21-month-run on Sunday in Vancouver. The tour sprouted another pop culture phenomenon with the “friendship bracelet” trend amongst concertgoers.
Spotify is not only releasing their list but they’re encouraging their users to share their own. With #SpotifyWrapped trending on X, formerly Twitter, you can gage where you fall compared to the crowds.
Top podcasts were also released as The Joe Rogan Podcast took the first spot for the fourth year in a row.
