Wicked star Ariana Grande gets teary-eyed as she addresses the constant chatter about her body and, subsequently, her weight.
In a recent interview with Crazy Sally , Grande says that the online commenters are overstepping their collective place, “I’ve been kind of doing this in front of the public and been a specimen in a petri dish since I was 16 or 17, so I have heard it all. I’ve heard every version of it of what’s wrong with me? And then you fix it and it’s wrong for different reasons.”
She continues, “I think there’s a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all, commenting on others’ looks, appearances, what they think is going on behind the scenes, their health or how they present themselves. I think it’s really dangerous for all parties involved.”
Grande has been in the media more than usual as she and her Wicked co-star, Cynthia Erivo, have been on a worldwide press tour with stops in six different cities. Countless interviews show the seemingly now best friends holding hands and tearfully reminiscing about their time on set. Grande is responding to commenters who appear in the comment section of nearly all social media posts remarking about her weight. Grande has notably been a petite frame her entire life.
The movie, which is being released as a two-part story with the second film set for release in November of 2025, is taking the cinemas by storm. With a budget of $150 million dollars, the film is marking its place in pop culture with a tally, so far, of $360 million dollars globally. The story of Wicked shows the witches of Oz before we met Dorothy and friends and was first published as a book in 1995. Grande and Erivo play opposite each other as Glinda and Elphaba in a movie adaptation of the Broadway phenomenon that has captivated audiences for over 2 decades.
The 31-year-old actress has been in the spotlight as she noted for half of her life. Appearing on Broadway at the age of 15, she appeared in the musical 13 in 2008. Shortly after, Nickelodeon called with a chance to act in a sitcom called Victorious where she played Cat Valentine for 4 seasons. Later, a spin-off of that show would afford her the opportunity to play that role again in Sam & Cat, which ran for one season.
From there, Grande began her lucrative pop singing career. Her first album, Yours Truly, was released in 2013 and went to number one on the Billboard 200 chart, the single from that album, The Way debuting at number 10. Seven albums, 90 million records sold and 2 Grammys later, she is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet with 376 million followers on Instagram.
