NSYNC’s Joey Fatone Takes Broadway Role With Backstreet Boys’ Pop Hits

NSYNC member Joey Fatone is no stranger to a stage, and now he has found his way back to one. This time however, it’s not with bandmates, but will be under the bright lights of Broadway. Fatone, 47, will take over the role of Lance Du Bois in the production of & Juliet. The pop version of the classic story written by William Shakespeare is a fresh look at the story of Romeo & Juliet, two lovers who meet tragedy at the end.

The show will use the quintessential pop songs originally written by producer Max Martin, which sent Fatone and his bandmates to superstardom. Fatone won’t need much rehearsing as the show features hits from NSYNC, including It’s Gonna Be Me, as well as hits from their 2000s rival, the Backstreet Boys, including As Long As You Love Me.

Fatone will appear onstage in the show starting January 21, 2025, and will run for a nine-week run through mid-March. But this isn’t the first time Fatone has appeared on a Broadway stage. In 2002, he acted in Rent and two years later portrayed Seymour in Little Shop Of Horrors.

The jukebox musical has been running since 2022 and features other pop hits including Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time, Kelly Clarkson’s Since U Been Gone and Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl. It has been nominated for nine Tony Awards.

Fans of the boy band genre have enjoyed seeing Fatone forge a friendship with BSB member AJ McLean. The blend of the two on stage is the best thing either fan base has had since the breakup of NSYNC in 2002 and their reunion in 2023. BSB seemingly broke up when member Kevin Richardson left the group in 2006. With his return six years later, the BSB announced a joint tour with 1980s boy band New Kids On The Block. Later, in 2017, BSB took to the Las Vegas stage with their first residency, which ultimately brought in over $34 million for 62 shows at Planet Hollywood.

NSYNC fans have somewhat been able to relive their glory days with the band after they broke up in 2002 when Justin Timberlake left the group to pursue his solo career. NYSNC’s much-awaited reunion happened in September of 2023 when the group appeared onstage at the VMAs that year to award Taylor Swift her “Moon Man” trophy for Best Pop Video. Swift herself had a moment of fangirling as she accepted the award.

Throughout much of 2023, the group appeared publicly to promote their song in the new Trolls movie, Trolls Band Together, where their song is featured as well as post videos on their social media accounts, take in dinners together and more.

Fatone and NSYNC have enjoyed a rebirth of their 2000 hit Bye Bye Bye after it was prominently featured in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, released in July of this year. The song was introduced to a new generation of music lovers as TikTok users tried their hand at the choreography. Once it appeared in the movie, sales of the 24 year old song jumped over 800%.
