NSYNC’s Lance Bass Admits He ‘Never Liked’ Diddy After He Did This

Lance Bass says Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was never his cup of tea after he overheard him talking to his fellow bandmate Justin Timberlake. In an interview with Andy Cohen during Watch What Happens Live, the former NSYNC singer says he never liked Diddy after he told Justin to ditch the band and go solo.

“I never kind of liked him, I’ll say this, our very last show in Orlando, I overheard him talking to Justin [Timberlake] and being like, ‘You need to drop these f*ers, you need to go solo.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t like you anymore Diddy.'” Bass said.

Audience members jeered, and Cohen, laughing with Bass, said, “You will not be hearing from Diddy about that. He’s got bigger problems than Lance Bass slapping him off on ‘Watch What Happens Live.’ Okay, the gloves are off.”

Diddy opened for NSync during the final tour in 2002. The tour ran for eight weeks and brought in nearly $30 million. Despite great reviews, the band had reached its peak and broke up a year later. Their pre-teen and teenage fans outgrew the boy band, leaving the opportunity for other projects, one being a solo career for Timberlake. Diddy has fallen far from grace after he was recently arrested and charged with sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him.

NSYNC rose to fame in 1997 with their first single I Want You Back off their self-titled debut album. Including Bass and Timberlake, the boy band included JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick. With incredible success in the music industry, NSYNC dominated the charts and award shows, touting eight Grammy nominations, five Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, and one Guinness World Record. That accolade came in 2000 with their album No Strings Attached as the fastest-selling pop album in history. Featuring hits It’s Gonna Be Me and Bye Bye Bye, the album sold more than 14 million copies, in it’s first week of sales, some 2.4 million copies were sold.

NSYNC fans were ecstatic when they showed up onstage to present fellow pop icon Taylor Swift with a VMA Award in September 2023. Rumors and high hopes of a reunion tour flooded social media, with even Swift herself fan-girling saying, “Are you doing something? What’s gonna happen now? What are you, there’s something, they’re gonna do something and I need to know what it is.” A year later, however, no official news of an ‘NSync reunion in sight. Instead, the band released a song called Better Place for the latest Dreamworks movie, Trolls Band Together.

After the band broke up, the rest of the group looked towards Broadway opportunities and other ventures, where Timberlake became an even bigger star with his solo career. His first hit came off the Justified album in 2002 and five more albums followed. His most recent album Everything I Thought It Was has him on tour currently on the East Coast, with new international dates just announced for next year. Timberlake has 10 Grammy Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, and four Emmy Awards.

Today, Bass is married to actor Michael Turchin, and the couple shares three-year-old twins. Bass and Turchin were the first same-sex couple to marry on cable television in their E! Network show Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding.
