A musical about Dolly Parton’s life is set to be released on what would’ve been the beloved icon’s 81st birthday.
The cherished celebrity we all held near and dear to our hearts will be portrayed on Broadway by Katie Clarke, Carrie St. Louis, and Quinn Titcomb across different stages of her life.
The musical will be the star’s last work while she was still alive, following her death at 80 on August 25. Previews will be in December, and it is set to release in January. In a statement to Deadline, producers wrote, “As was Dolly’s wish, the Broadway production of Dolly: A True Original Musical will begin previews December 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City.”
This musical was a passion project of hers, and she even worked as one of the producers to get the story onto Broadway, as she told Deadline.
“Just over a month ago, on July 7, she said in a statement, “My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really and I can’t wait to present it to you on Broadway. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I’ve enjoyed livin’ it.”
The musical premieres in Nashville, Tennessee, which is her home state. This is still about 209 miles away from the town of Sevierville, where she grew up.
We can see what mattered to her through what she championed with her Dollywood Foundation, which Billboard has so generously catalogued. Along with being a fervent supporter of childhood literacy using her Imagination Library (reaching over 300 million books gifted), $15,000 school scholarships for seniors to attend college, and donated $1,000,000 to coronavirus research at Vanderbilt University.
We’ve all lost great celebrities that have felt like they were gone much too soon over the years. From the likes of Aaliyah, to Hayden Panetierre, and now, even Dolly Parton.
