The Democratic National Convention concluded last Thursday night in Chicago, with Vice President Kamala Harris accepting the Democratic Party Presidential Nomination without Beyonce’s presence, as some anticipated.
The three-night event featured delegates, celebrities, political figures, relatives, ex-presidents, and their wives who endorsed the Democratic nominee as the next President of the United States of America.
Oprah Winfrey, Kerry Washington, and D.L. Hughley were just a few celebrities who spoke on behalf of Kamala Harris to encourage Americans to vote for the Democratic Candidate in the November election against Republican Party Nominee, Ex-President Donald Trump.
During the four-night convention, performances by artists including Stevie Wonder, Pink, and John Legend created an electrifying atmosphere of dancing, cheering, clapping, and even some crying.
Sounds of the hit song Freedom by Grammy Award Winning and recording artist sensation Beyonce could be heard playing over the public address system. Anticipation was high among the thousands in attendance as rumors swirled that the pop star would perform during the final night. Kamala Harris walked onto the stage as the popular hit played before delivering her nomination acceptance speech.
Hollywood news source TMZ reported earlier that Thursday, citing multiple sources, that the artist would give a surprise performance on Harris’ big night. Some of Beyonce’s supporting delegates and attendees who wore cowboy boots, hats, and red, white, and blue sashes recognizing the star’s recent album, Cowboy Carter, were visibly disheartened.
Ex-president Donald Trump’s campaign attempted to benefit from the Beyonce hit song Freedom while stepping off a plane in Michigan to gain voters from a particular demographic by using it without her permission. The singer contacted him by sending him a letter about his illegal use of her music. The video featuring the song was posted on X, formerly Twitter, but was deleted shortly afterward.
Nevertheless, the artist Pink performed with her 13-year-old daughter, Willow, before the night ended. Also, the Chicks, formerly The Dixie Chicks, performed the national anthem. However, the night came and went with no Beyonce to be seen. Former representative Adam Kinzinger, one of several Republicans who spoke at the DNC, said he heard rumors about the star making an appearance, according to The Hill.
During the week leading up to the convention, there were rumors that Queen Bee would perform on stage and endorse Kamala Harris as the Democratic Presidential Nominee on the closing night.
Minutes before Kamala Harris was scheduled to address the filled-to-capacity arena, a representative of Beyonce delivered the shocking news confirming that she would not be appearing or performing. “Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there,” they told The Hollywood Reporter.
With only 70 days remaining before the presidential election, which will decide the 47th presidency in American History, both political parties have completed their historical conventions, which are held to officially nominate the party’s candidate.
During the 2020 election, Beyonce voted for President Joe Biden. Additionally, she gave Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff tickets to her Rennaissance Tour 2023. Although Beyonce has not publicly endorsed her for the 2024 election, she granted the Vice President the right to use Freedom as the official anthem to indicate her support as soon as her campaign launched.
Beyoncé’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure also took to Instagram to say: “At home watching and anticipating the VP’s historic speech. Focus on the win and register to vote. Do not report rumors. FOCUS.”
TMZ ultimately, took responsibility for speculating Beyonce would appear and perform at the DNC which did not happen. In a post on X, along with amending their original piece, the outlet wrote: “To quote the great Beyonce: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down … we got this one wrong.”
Even though Beyonce didn’t go to the DNC, she was still the topic of conversation even after it was over. According to USA Today, “Folks think the rumors were just a ploy to boost Harris’ convention speech, which reached around 29 million people at its peak — and the theory is uniting Democrats and Republicans.”
