Alysha Newman celebrated her iconic win at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday with a sexy dance move.
The 30-year-old Canadian Pole-Vaulter and OnlyFans star Cleared 4.85 meters, earning her the third-place bronze medal in a highly competitive event. Soon after her record-setting attempt, Newman began shaking her butt toward the crowds with a big grin on her face. Television camera crews caught the footage of her twerking, which quickly went viral on the internet.
Alysha’s move prompted mixed reactions that flooded social media sites.
“Olympic athletes used to be considered heroes and a source of national pride. This is just gross,” one person commented underneath a video of Newman twerking. Another defended the statement, “These comments are miserable; let someone who’s worked hard for 4 years have fun. Y’all sitting on the couch getting closer to type 2 diabetes every day.” Someone else chimed in, stating, “Alysha has the right to celebrate in any way she wants.”
The question is, has she started a new twerking trend after an Olympic win?
Social media users were divided on whether Newman’s twerking move was to promote her OnlyFans or just to act silly after her win. Her win made history as the first for a Canadian woman in an Olympic pole vault competition. While she’s the first Canadian woman to win the Olympics, she’s not the only Olympian cashing in on the OnlyFans social media site.
For example, British diver Jack Laugher, a competitor at the 2024 Paris Games, floored fans when he unveiled his account.
“Obviously, I’ve got what people want,” Laugher said, per Telegraph. “I’ll happily cash in on that. I’m a bit of a hustler and I want a bit more money if I can.” He added, “I’m top three in the world and it only pays between $28,000 and 36,000 a year.” Laugher didn’t disclose how much money he makes from his OnlyFans account, which he does not reveal full-frontal nudity. The New York Post reported that Laugher’s teammates, like Noah Williams, 24, Daniel Goodfellow, 27, and Matty Lee, 26, have also started OnlyFans accounts, sharing similarly titillating — but not explicit — content.
Retired Olympian speed skater Elise Christie claims her account saved her life after retirement three years ago.
“I went from being someone who won medals under a system to then having absolutely nothing and just being dropped out and left to understand life,” Christie told The New York Post. “I had lost my house and was working three jobs at the time… [OnlyFans] brought me back from a dark place, and I now use it positively.”
Newman charges fans an estimated $12 monthly subscription to her adult-only content, which she says does not show nudity.
