The 2024 Summer Olympic Games began six days ago in Paris, France. The traditional opening ceremony was a breathtaking spectacle of Olympic teams from around the globe cruising the Seine River just minutes from the iconic Eiffel Tower in heavy rain for the official start of the 2024 Paris Games.
Millions of Americans viewed the live ceremony via streaming or a pre-recorded broadcast on NBC. The seven-hour time difference allows Americans to view daily Olympic competitions and events.
The XXXIII Olympic Games has drawn celebrities and spectators from across the world. But none more exciting than NBC special correspondent Snoop Dogg. The Grammy-nominated rapper’s claim to fame as a lyrical genius over three decades ago, and due to his illustrious career he was selected to represent America as a host for his comical humor and wit.
Weeks before the 2024 Olympics began, the trials were held in Portland, Oregon. Snoop, called by many, began his Olympic broadcasting debut there. The broadcast showcased the rapper participating in a mock 100-meter dash. Although placing last among other celebrity participants, he bragged about completing the race despite being out of breath.
Respectively, in a video featured on YouTube Snoop Dogg spoke of his lifetime goal of learning to swim during the Paris Games. And who better to give him lessons than Michael Phelps the most successful and decorated Olympian with twenty-eight medals?
The YouTube video shows the rapper bragging about his relationship with the gold medal olympian by saying he and Phelps go back like a “backstroke.” When asked how one can become an Olympic swimmer? Phelps replied, “Wingspan and lung power.” Snoop Dog’s response to his answer was, “You just described me, I have a lot of lung power” jokingly, making light of his publicly known love for smoking marijuana.
During the swimming lessons, Phelps instructed Snoop on his swimming technique. After a few attempts he successfully swam the length of the short pool, but not before running out of breath. The video concluded with him sarcastically saying he and Phelps were still in “gold medal shape.”
The 2024 Paris Olympics Games last two and a half weeks and will end with closing ceremonies on August 11.
