Rapper Cameron Giles, better known by his stage name Cam’ron, had a controversial appearance on CNN NewsNight with anchor Abby Phillip last night.
Phillip had invited Cam’ron on the show to speak on the recent footage that was released of Sean “Diddy” Combs physically assaulting his ex, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, in a hotel in 2016 when they were together. Since Cam’ron is the founder of the “No Diddy movement” and has close ties to Diddy through his friend, former Bad Boy rap artist Mase, it would seem that the Oh Boy rapper would be the best person to comment on the situation.
While Cam’ron condemned the Revolt founder’s physical attack on Cassie as “egregious” and admitted that he found it upsetting, that was about all he said about Diddy during his CNN sit-down.
“The apology ain’t for me, it’s for Cassie. He ain’t do nothing for me,” Cam’ron told Phillip after she asked him about Diddy’s apology video shared Sunday.
“What I think about it don’t matter. You need to ask Cassie if she accepts the apology. I said what I said,” he continued.
Even after Phillip played a clip from an episode of Cam’ron and Mase’s It Is What Is podcast, the rapper-turned-podcaster remained tight-lipped about providing a deeper perspective on Diddy. The snippet revealed Cam’ron explaining that Mase had advised him against going to Diddy at the start of his music career, and Mase revealing why he did so.
Phillip tried to get some inside deets from Cam’ron, asking him if there was “something known in the industry about how Diddy treated his artists.” Instead of replying, he took a drink, downing a shot of his signature male intimacy enhancement drink, Pink Horse Power.
“Sorry, I’m going to get some cheeks after this Horse Power joint,” Cam’ron said bluntly after he finished his drink.
Phillip questioned Cam’ron further about Diddy, seemingly determined to get him to provide inside info on the music mogul despite him making it clear he didn’t know Diddy very well like Mase did since he was “never signed to Bad Boy.” He appeared to be fed up with Phillips’ prying after she asked him if anyone in the hip-hop community or “industry in general” had been protecting Diddy’s bad behavior.
“Who’s the talent agent for this joint? You think I be sitting around watching what Diddy do,” Cam’ron spat aggressively. “I didn’t know this was a Diddy joint that y’all invited me to. Who booked me for this joint?”
Realizing the interview was failing, Phillip wrapped it up and thanked Cam’ron for being on NewsNight.
“Thank you for having me,” Cam’ron pushed out attitudinally.
Cam’ron stood by how he acted on CNN, writing on Instagram shortly after: “F**k they invite on CNN for?”
It seems that he was under the impression that he was there to speak on his business ventures, like his sex stimulant brand, PinkHorse Power, and his beloved Is What It Is podcast. Not to speak on Diddy and Cassie.
