Fans joke about Woody’s bald spot as the gang faces a high-tech threat.
Pixar has debuted a trailer for the fifth Toy Story movie, teasing a reunion between Woody and Buzz Lightyear. As the trailer continues to circulate online, attention has also turned to an official licensed Toy Story sticker collection that appears to hint at a possible family connection between Woody and Jessie. While Pixar may not have confirmed the relationship, the imagery has reignited conversations amongst fans, along with Woody’s new look.
The new movie centers on a conflict among Woody, Buzz, and the Toy Story gang, who face extinction in a high-tech world, pitting them against a modernized toy: a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet.
‘The toys are back and this time, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie,” reads a synopsis.
Fans were quick to react to Woody’s bald spot in the Toy Story 5 trailer, as was the rest of the gang, to how noticeably Woody appears to have aged.
While Woody’s age had many fans feeling nostalgic, others teased Woody’s hairline, with many fans feeling like Woody’s going bald is telling of their own age.
Film and television journalist, Rendy Jones, wrote on X, “Pixar giving Woody a bald spot is taking me out. Why you gotta remind the people who grew up with TOY STORY how old we are like that?!”
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack all return to their iconic voice roles in Toy Story 5, along with Tony Hale returning as Forky, who was introduced in Toy Story 4.
Also returning for the film’s voice cast are John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shown as Rex, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Jeff Bergman and Anna Vocino as Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Melissa Villasenor as Karen Beverly, John Hopkins as Mr. Picklepants, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, and Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom.
New characters and voices include Conan O’Brien as a toilet training tech toy, “Smarty Pants,” according to a press release. Craig Robinson’s GPS hippo, Atlas, is also featured, as is Shelby Rabara as the camera toy Snappy, Scarlett Spears as Bonnie, Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, and Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase.
Toy Story 5 promises to explore the challenges between classic toys and a modern, high -tech world a debate reflecting how some view the past as simpler, more engaging while modern devices offer innovation and new ways to connect showing that both old and new have their own value. With the return of beloved characters and the addition of new voices, Pixar balances humor, heart, and a playful take on change, reminding audiences that both old and new can coexist and bring value to our lives.
