Christina Aguilera starred in 2010 adaptation of 'Burlesque'
Burlesque The Musical recently opened its doors at the Savoy Theater in London’s West End.
Christina Aguilera, who starred in the 2010 movie of the same name, attended the performance over the weekend. Aguilera was blown away and shared her support for the play’s star actor, Jess Folley, who plays Ali. Aguilera has shown nothing but great admiration for the musical, giving it a five-star rating.
The singer took to Instagram on Saturday, July 20, writing “BLOWN AWAY!!”
In the reel she uploaded, she detailed her experience watching the show. The clips show a montage of her cheering and reacting to the multitude of performances in the musical.
In the video, the song in the background, called Show Me How You Burlesque is also a part of the film’s soundtrack.
Other songs in the film soundtrack are Welcome to Burlesque, Express, and Bound to You, which Sia co-wrote. Music sensation Todrick Hall and Folley led this musical. Hall not only directs but also contributes to the choreography.
Folley takes center stage as Ali, a character from a small town. Folley is no stranger to performances and the industry. She has appeared on TV shows such as The Voice Kids UK and participated in X Factor with her group RLY.
Like in the original movie, Ali discovers an underground club and searches for her mother in the middle of New York City. The book adaptation was written by Steven Antin, who is also a part of the film’s directing.
Another person involved in this musical is Orfeh, a Tony Award nominee. Orfeh plays Tess, a club owner, who was made famous on screen by the iconic songstress Cher in the original film.
She stole the scene as Paulette in Legally Blonde on Broadway and has also performed in recent gigs, such as Chicago: The Musical. Other significant projects that she has participated in are Pretty Woman: The Musical, Saturday Night Fever, Footloose, and Fascinating Rhythm.
George Maguire, Ayesha, Parker, and Paul Jacob are our other cast members for this musical. Maguire is an Oliver Award winner who plays the role of Vince.
Despite her watching from the audience, Aguilera is also executive producing the musical alongside other producers such as Adam Paulden and Jason Haigh-Ellery, with many more.
“I am so thrilled to see Jess Folley kill it in Burlesque,” Aguilera said in a separate reel.
