With summer fast approaching and the weather becoming much warmer and humid, it’s almost second nature for people to grab drinks to stay hydrated.
Popular choices for drinks are water, soda, and especially lemonade. Lemonade is considered a popular go-to drink for summer weather. However, despite lemonade being popular, there are more ways to enhance the drink’s flavor and make it even more delicious. According to three experts, here are ways to make the world’s best lemonade.
Lemonade is a naturally sweet drink. When making it the perfect sweet pitcher, picking the best sweetener is always best.
“Making a simple syrup is important instead of directly adding sugar. This ensures the lemonade is nice and smooth and gives you better control over the sweetness.” Erin Clarke said.
To make simple syrup, all that’s needed is sugar and water to heat together until the sugar crystals dissolve, then leave it to cool until it is ready to use.
Clark, the creator of Well Plated’s recipe blog, sometimes infuses homemade syrup with extra flavors like blackberries. “Just be sure you strain any infused syrups before adding them to the pitcher,” she says.
Kat Marris, a private chef and recipe developer, stated she uses agave nectar. “I like to use agave nectar in place of granulated sugar for the sweetener in my lemonade.” She says. “It adds a richer profile, and it makes a fast lemonade as you don’t have to dissolve the granulated sugar into hot water.” Marris’ ratio of adding agave nectar is 3/4 cup of agave nectar and 6 cups of water.
Like most sweeteners, the amount you can add isn’t exact. It almost always depends on the person administering it. “I recommend sweetening your lemonade to meet your personal taste preferences,” says the creator of the recipe blog Nourished by Nic Nicole Addison.
Experts also recommend using freshly squeezed lemonade and adding fresh herbs such as rosemary and lavender.
During the summertime, Marris says that she likes adding lemon ice cubes to her lemonade instead of regular ice. “I like to use lemonade ice cubes in my lemonade instead of regular ice cubes; this helps prevent a water-down glass and has more flavor.” Addison adds, “I love freezing my lemonade and silicone moles to create the ultimate popsicles perfect for a hot day.”
With these new ways of making lemonade, more summer recipes can be added to future food bucket lists. So when life gives you lemons, make some lemonade.
