Some hip hop icons entered into the Kendrick Lamar/Drake/J.Cole saga
Last year was a wild year for hip-hop. Despite the crazy year, no one had a crazy whirlwind of emotions more than Drake and Kendrick fans. Since March 2024, rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been feuding nonstop, dropping notable diss tracks against one another.
Of the diss tracks, Drake’s most talked about during the beef, Family Matters, is where he accuses Lamar of abusing his wife, and Not Like Us is where Lamar responds and accuses Drake of being a pedophile.
It’s no secret that this feud has sparked controversy. Not Like Us won multiple Grammys this year, and Kendrick recently performed it at the Super Bowl, leaving people to believe that Drake’s career could never recover.
On Valentine’s Day, Drake and Party Next Door released their joint album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The joint album was announced last August.
Drake shared the album cover art just a couple of days earlier. It features Drake and Party behind two towers of what appear to be records.
“On behalf of me and Party, we’ve been working on something for y’all,” Drake stated. “So get the summer over with, do what you need to do. I know all you girls are outside. When it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be waiting right there for you.”
Both Drake and Party have heavily teased the album over the past couple of months, with Party saying that his favorite collaboration was in $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
The album has 21 songs, and Gimme a Hug has sparked the most conversation of the latest album tracks. On the track, Drake addresses how he feels about the beef and overcomes the negative aspects of the feud.
“Drake elimination, fake intimidation/Take a minute, take a deep breath, have a little bit of patience,” he raps. “Funny how it’s only b – – -h n – – -as waiting on the boy’s obituary.”
In the track, he also states how he would handle future beef. “F – -k all rap beef; I’m trying to get the party lit.”
He also seemingly takes shots at Joe Budden and Melyssa Ford, rapping, “Melyssa Ford, you a legend from the six hate to see you with a d- -k sucker.”
Like Lamar, Budden and Drake have had a back-and-forth. After Drake allegedly posted Budden on his spam Instagram account, things started heating up again.
“I’m not going back and forth with a corpse,” Budden responded.
Drake and Party’s recent release marks Drake’s first full-length project since his back-and-forth with Lamar in 2024. $ome $exy $ongs 4 U is available on all digital platforms.
