The 2025 Grammy Awards are going to be laden with girl power. The nominations were announced earlier this month, and women are leading the pack in most of the big categories.
Taylor Swift is certainly the first artist to come to mind regarding awards, and this year is no different. Swift tallied up six nominations, adding to her cumulative total of 52 nominations. However, an artist who is no stranger to awards and accolades is Beyonce, who made history with her foray into country music this past year. Typically a hip hop artist, the 43-year old, branched out to her Texas roots to release her first country album. Cowboy Carter, a concept album, focuses on the history of country music and is Beyonce’s 8th studio album. It topped at number one on the US Billboard 200 and is in the running for Best Country Album and Best Album, bringing her total to 11 nominations.
Two newcomers who had a huge year are Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan. Each artist boasts 6 nominations and both are honored in the biggest categories including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Carpenter’s Espresso was certified 5 times platinum and topped at number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Roan, 26, has a hit with Good Luck, Babe!, the song having over a million page views. Missouri born and raised, Roan released her album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess peaked at number 2 on the charts.
Rounding up the nominations for female artists is Billie Eilish. With 7 nominations, the singer already has 9 awards on her mantle but may add a few more for her nominations in big categories like Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Her song, Birds Of A Feather peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Other big nominations go to Post Malone and Kendrick Lamar, both men racking up 7 nods. Malone’s nominations include Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his song I Had Some Help which features Morgan Wallen. Lamar’s nominations include his diss track on Drake, Not Like Us. The song made headlines as it called out behavior by Drake including alleged involvement with minors. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
The 67th annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 2 in Los Angeles.
