The start of a new year is the perfect time for a refresh. We tend to change up our clothing and accessories with the ease of online ordering, but what about your hairstyle? Making such a drastic and semi-permanent change can be intimidating, but if you look to the current trends it may help you finally make that change you’ve been debating on for so long.
Trends are showing that a lot of women prefer easy-to-style, low maintenance haircuts. There are several options for short hair as well as styles that are quick to fix. The classic bob is a classic for a reason. Originated over a hundred years ago, the style came to be during the “flapper” era of our country. Short, blunt and bouncy, the cut was originally a statement against traditional feminism. Today, it’s a sleek style that frames your face. Professional stylist Jennifer Korab says, “It’s trending because it channels timeless sophistication with a contemporary twist, perfect for these looking for a fresh, confident style. It’s a minimalist approach to hair that doesn’t sacrifice individuality.”
With scissors in hand, have your stylist lead to you the “wolf cut.” A mix between a shag and a mullet, this once-dated look is making a comeback. Short layers blend with choppy pieces to give your cut a bit of natural movement, that also frames your face. Its the epitome of the popular meme, “I woke up like this” making your morning routine quick and easy after you run a bit of product through your hair.
If you’re a wash-and-go and skip the blowdryer type of woman, the wet look might be your answer. Just add a bit, or more, of gel and hairspray and slick your strands back and you’re ready to go. This trend makes more of a statement and is perfect for an elegant evening or big night out.
Decades ago, Cyndi Lauper and even more recently Katy Perry had colored hair. But not just the color to blend your roots. These women went above and beyond in their color choices to really make a statement. Since then, it seems the bold color choices have blended into our daily styles and it’s no longer reserved for pop singers on a stage. Jeweled tones like garnet and emerald are rising in popularity in 2025. The colors are admittedly high-maintenance as your natural color must be first bleached to a blonde color if you aren’t already so, and then the color applied. Additionally, once you are colored perfectly, shampooing too often can strip the color faster, so frequent reapplication is necessary. Cold water and proper shampoo can help the life of the color.
Natural curls are also trending next year. Rather than forcing your hair to go against the grain, stylist recommend letting the curls be free. Curtain bangs are simple to maintain and go well with the curls as this style is flowing and lays perfectly around your face.
Long, loose layers are pretty and pretty easy to keep up with as well. The cut can look care-free and is easy to prep with just a quick brush through the hair and a bit of a texturizing spray.
Highlights are a great way to enhance the natural tones in your hair and 2025 is trending with highlights that are muted and not overdone. Moonlights are a new take on the very popular balayage we saw in the past few years. This look is achieved by literally painting the lower half of the hair, stepping away from the foil at your roots for a more natural look.
