A global cultural event, not only for music and the arts, but also one of the most significant cultural events for fashion. What used to be about music and experience now seems to feel like an exclusive experience for celebrities, influencers, and those who can afford or are willing to spend for a Coachella experience.
It is no wonder the average American is getting priced out of tickets for Coachella, along with influencers “begging” for tickets, accommodations, or sponsors from brands.
Over the past decades, Coachella ticket prices have more than doubled. In 1999, general admission tickets started at $50, increasing annually, with prices reaching $270 in 2010. Following the pandemic, tickets were priced from $449 and up.
Coachella 2026 tickets were initially priced between $549 and $649 for general admission, with VIP passes ranging from $1,199 to $1,399. Branding, sponsorships, and production sets drive up costs, ultimately raising ticket prices.
However, due to resale, platforms like StubHub have inflated ticket prices, with prices ranging from $2,000 to $4,000, and other listings charging more, about $6,000 to $7,000 for passes. Resale markets have transformed access to events into a bidding war where fans are not priced by value but by how much they are willing or able to spend.
And getting a ticket to Coachella is just the entry point; there is still the cost of flights for those travelling to California, shuttles, Uber, hotels, Airbnbs, food, and outfits guests attending have to also consider, which becomes quite expensive.
