Caitlin Clark Comes Out On Top Despite Indiana Fever Losing to LA Sparks

WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark almost got her team, the Indiana Fever, to victory on Tuesday. Although she brought her A-game, it wasn’t enough to defeat the Fever’s recent competitors, the Los Angeles Sparks.

The game began in favor of the Fever. With two minutes and 34 seconds left in the third quarter, the Fever had 55 points, seven more than the Sparks, who were at 45. Later in the quarter, the Sparks went on an 11-0 run the rest of the quarter to take a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish for the rest of the game. 

Clark’s performance of 30 points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks stands among only a few. With it, she becomes the fourth player in WNBA history with a 30-5-5-3-3 stat line. She’s also the fastest WNBA player to record 100 points and 50 assists.

Alongside this historic night, this game also marks the second meeting between Clark and the Sparks’ No.2 pick Cameron Brink. The latter scored minimally with 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Meanwhile, Kia Nurse scored the most for the Sparks, bringing in a hefty 22 points. 

Despite Clark’s stellar performance, in the end, the Sparks triumphed as the winner, finishing with 88 points to the Fevers 82 points. This marks another defeat for the mid-western professional basketball team. So far this current season the Fevers have lost seven of their first eight games.

The pro-athlete has been forthcoming about how she felt about her performance in Tuesday’s loss.

“Honestly, I think I just played with an aggressive mindset,” Clark told reporters. “I think that was the biggest thing, just to play downhill the best I could.”

She added: “I would have liked to have made a couple more threes…but I thought we did some good things and then we just kinda shoot ourselves in the foot.”

Clark also took accountability for the seven turnovers she racked up during the game.

“The biggest thing for me is, when I get in there, I still get a little indecisive – and that’s honestly where a lot of my turnovers are still coming from,” Clark stated.

“Just a little indecision when I do get my feet in the paint, but I think I’ve done a better job of probing and finding people open or finishing at the rim. I think I’ve done a better job as well of understanding who’s guarding me.”

She continued: “That will continue to get a lot better, I’ll continue to take care of the ball a little bit better and find people, not be a little indecisive – I’ve got to make decisions a bit faster once I do get my feet in the paint.”

Clark once again drew a huge crowd over of 16,000 for last night’s Fever vs. Sparks game.
