Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura has finally opened up about being a domestic abuse survivor via a personal statement on social media.
The 37-year-old Me & U singer’s allegations of her 54-year-old ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs physically abusing her throughout their decade-long relationship seemed to be substantiated after a video of the rapper beating her up in a hotel in 2016 was released last Friday.
Countless people have shown public support for Cassie amid the disturbing hotel surveillance footage of Diddy throwing and repeatedly kicking her was made public. Taking to her Instagram account on Thursday, the R&B/pop artist thanked everyone who has stood beside her in solidarity.

“Thank you for all the love and support from my family, friends, and strangers and those I have yet to meet,” she wrote at the beginning of her statement. “The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning.”
Cassie continued: “Domestic Violence is THE issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past. Thank you to everyone that has taken the matter seriously.”
She then went on to seemingly address the skeptics who doubted the allegations she made in her swiftly settled November 2023 lawsuit against Diddy, who she dated from 2007 to 2018. The footage of the music mogul physically attacking The Perfect Match actress matched a horrific incident that was detailed in her lawsuit.
“My only ask is that EVERYONE open their heart to believing victims the first time,” Cassie added. “It takes a lot of heart to the tell truth out of a situation that you were powerless in.”
She finished her statement with encouraging words directed to those who are in domestic violence situations and looking to escape.
“I offer my hand to those still living in fear. Reach out to your people, don’t cut them off,” Cassie advised. “No one should carry this weight alone.
The model admitted that the “healing journey is never ending” and that everyone’s support “means everything” to her before she thanked her supporters once again.
Cassie’s comment section was flooded with uplifting comments from fans and, of course, her 31-year-old husband, Alex Fine, with whom she shares daughters, four-year-old Frankie and three-year-old Sunny.
He was the first commenter, writing under her post: “Love you so much , perfect example for our daughters [heart] emoji.”
One fan added, “You are one strong beautiful woman raising two strong beautiful woman,” and a second person shared: “Sending you so much love, light and healing energy….We stand with you and ALL victims of DV…”
Among the kind words from fans were also empowering comments from celebrities.
Singer Tinashe wrote, “Sending so much love to you sweetheart ! We love u.”
Meanwhile, platinum-selling rapper Da Brat mentioned, “We love u. So sorry you had to go through those horrible times. No one deserves that. We appreciate your strength queen.”
Prior to Cassie’s statement, Diddy apologized for his abusive actions in a video he shared on social media Sunday. While he didn’t say sorry to the mom of two specifically, he seemed like he was attempting to take accountability for his behavior, albeit he denied any wrongdoing, up until the hotel footage was released.
In the clip, Diddy said, “It’s difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you gotta do that. I was f—ked u. I mean, I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.”
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he continued. Diddy confessed that he was “disgusted” with his behavior.
“I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help, going to therapy, going to rehab,” he revealed. “I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man. Each and every day.”
Toward the end of his video, the hip-hop legend explained that he was “not asking for forgiveness” and was “truly sorry.”
