Face masks have been the norm for over the last year, becoming a mandatory addition to our outfits depending on which state you live in. While often masks are viewed as an uncomfortable necessity, Black Eyed Peas frontman and super producer Will.i.am is turning masks into the ultimate fashion accessory.
On Tuesday (April 6) morning it was announced that Willi.am would be collaborating with Honeywell for the new cutting-edge electronic XUPERMASK. The innovative face mask is a product of Will.i.am’s ingenuity, and a significant contribution from manufacturing company Honeywell.
“XUPERMASK offers wearers cutting-edge design and functionality. Its blend of fashion, technology and function is unparalleled,” chairman and Honeywell CEO Darius Adamczyk said in a statement. “We are proud to have partnered with will.i.am on this unique and innovative project.”
Sleek, black and stylish, the XUPERMASK’s futuristic design integrates world-class technologies like Honeywell’s patented HEPA filtration system, LED day glow lights, Bluetooth 5.0, magnetic earbud docking, noise-canceling audio and microphone capabilities. The new high tech mask also has a 7-hour battery life!
XUPERMASK takes face masks a step further, seeking to eliminate the common issues with current face masks.
As noted by Complex, “We have a huge opportunity to do something really big and solve problems that a lot of folks making masks before have ignored,” Will.i.am says of XUPERMASK.”
Additionally, the superhero—or super villain— aesthetic was designed by costume designer Jose Fernandez. Fernandez has formerly worked on material for Batman, Spiderman and Tron films, making him the ultimate choice for Will.i.am’s new project.
As noted by Complex, “[I knew] it should be Jose like, ‘Yo Jose look, bro, let’s make a mask. Are you busy right now?’ He was like, ‘Well, actually I’m not. People aren’t filming anything right now. So, you got me a hundred percent right now,’” Will recalled. “So, thank the Lord that he was available. To have that level of a designer be a part of your company is phenomenal.”
