New romances, exposed secrets, and the ton’s most scandalous season yet.
Dearest gentle reader, Netflix has released the Bridgerton Season 4 trailer, sparking an intriguing interest among fans eager to see what unfolds this upcoming season, delivering a familiar and classic tale of a maid attending a ball as a mysterious lady, capturing the interest of a noble gentleman.
Season 4 will follow the bohemian second son, Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), a free-spirited man who refuses to settle down, who will now become desperate to find the lady who stole his heart, a resourceful maid, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).
But what happens when the object of Benedict’s desire is not in society at all?
As Thompson told Harper’s Bazaar Australia, Season 4 explores “the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale – the romance of it – and the actual reality of the world,” setting this season for deeper tensions and drama beyond the ballroom.
In the Season 3 finale, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) revealed that she is Lady Whistledown to Queen Charlotte and to almost everyone in the ton. Things will not be easy for the writer in Season 4, now that the people she writes about know her formerly secret identity.
As Coughlan told Tudum by Netflix, “with Queen Charlotte becoming very involved in what she’s doing, these are things she’s never had to contend with before, since she was such a solitary person. It’s really turning her world upside down.”
Between forbidden love, unveiled secrets, and the ever-watchful eyes of society, this season is full of scandal and surprises, yet once again.
The new season will also introduce a handful of fresh new faces to the ton. If you are a fan of the Harry Potter films, expect a familiar face, Katie Leung, who will play Lady Armanita Gun, the twice-married and twice-widowed stepmother of Sophie Baek, who treats her stepdaughter as a maid.
“Feeling the pressure to get at least one of her girls married off. Fabulous, discerning, and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything — or anyone — threatens her standing in society,” hinted Netflix.
The Gun family also includes Rosmund Li, Lady Araminta’s eldest daughter, played by Michelle Mao, who is beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother, along with Rosamund’s youngest, Posy Li, played by Isabella Wei, a dancer and actor from Hong Kong, who is kinder.
Bridgerton Season 4, Part 1, will debut on Jan.29, but for those who can not wait, Netflix is giving fans an exclusive look to watch the first episode before its release on Wednesday, Jan.14 at the historic Palais Brongniart in Paris.
