Fans of Phil Collins are left wondering if the musician is in hospice care after rumors began to circulate on social media.
It started this past Friday when X user Doreen Linder tweeted a TikTok of him singing “You’ll Be in My Heart” and said, “Phil Collins is in hospice.”
She continues: “He was such an amazing songwriter. Please, Gen Xers can’t take anymore loss. My son used to sing this to me when he was a toddler. He loved the Tarzan movie.”
Fans from X were quick to respond as to whether or not there is any verifiable evidence for the claim.
Skyline Report tweeted the rumor to not be confirmed from Collins, his family, or any official sources by saying, “Phil Collins is not in hospice care, despite viral rumors spreading on social media.”
The tweet continues: “While the 74-year-old musician has long faced serious health issues—including nerve damage, type 2 diabetes, and declining mobility—he was recently seen publicly and is reportedly still at home. The hospice claim remains an unverified hoax.”
Recently, a representative for Phil Collins officially shot down the rumors that the music star’s been receiving hospice care.
On Saturday, the rep confirmed told People that the Phil’s recent hospitalization wasn’t because of terminal illness and that the rumors of him being in hospice are “completely incorrect.”
Although Phil was in the hospital, it was because he was recovering from knee surgery, not receiving hospice care.
He also suffered a spinal injury in 2007 that damaged his vertebrae and caused nerve damage, ultimately leading to multiple surgeries on his neck and back, according to an article by Parade from February.
“In one of his feet, he has like no sensation, which is why he can’t really play drums and why he has to walk with a cane, because he doesn’t have that control like he used to anymore,” Collins’ son, Nic Collins, said of his dad’s foot drop condition in the Parade report.
Collins’ longtime friend and bandmate Mike Rutherford from Genesis has spoken about his health during an appearance on BBC Breakfast a year after the band’s final farewell show in March 2022.
“Phil is much more immobile than he used to be, which is a shame,” Rutherford said. “But at the tour, he was in good spirits and he’s fine now at home, enjoying life. He’s worked so hard over the years, I think he’s enjoying his time at home.”
