President-elect Donald Trump has begun to plan who will attend various events in Washington D.C. to mark his return to the White House after serving a four-year term from 2016 to 2020.
He has invited many other people to these events, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Still, whether they will come to the United States to welcome back Trump is unknown.
President Joe Biden
Joe Biden announced he would attend Trump’s inauguration even when Trump did not pay him respects when he lost to Biden in 2020. Former first lady Melania Trump also did not attend Biden’s inauguration.
Former President Barrack Obama
Barrack Obama plans to attend alongside Biden, but his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, will not. His planned attendance was announced in a current statement on social media.
Although it did not explain Michelle’s absence, her decision breaks the tradition among most former presidents and their wives, besides the Trumps in 2020. Barrack was spotted sitting next to Trump at former President Carter’s funeral, where they were photographed laughing and having a friendly conversation.
Former President George Bush and Former First Lady Laura Bush
The Bushes plan to attend the inauguration, according to a Bush spokesperson.
Former President Bill Clinton and Former First Lady Hillary Clinton
Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, will also attend the ceremony. Hillary, Obama’s secretary of State, notably attended Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 after she lost the 2016 presidential election to him.
Elon Musk
Elon Musk, who has been confirmed to co-lead Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), will be in attendance too. He donated millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign and has become a close ally to the president-elect. There is ongoing concern about Musk’s influence over Trump as he continues to engage politically with him.
Jeff Bezos
Amazon owner Jeff Bezos plans to be there among the handful of attendees, according to The Washington Post. He also owns the aerospace company Blue Origin and expressed optimism about the new Trump administration’s space policy.
Mark Zuckerberg
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be seated next to Bezos and Musk at the inauguration. The tech trio is expected to sit near other former presidents, Trump’s family, lawmakers, and his cabinet picks, according to The Post.
Kamala Harris is expected to attend the inauguration, according to the Associated Press. It is presumably customary for outgoing vice presidents and losing presidential candidates to attend the president-elect’s inauguration day, despite Melania Trump not attending Biden’s welcome day in 2020.
Carrie Underwood, the Village People, and Christopher Macchio
Country singer Carrie Underwood and disco group the Village People are expected to perform at multiple inaugural events for Trump, including an upcoming “victory rally.” This ironically fits to some degree as the Village People’s song Y.M.C.A. is now known to be a Trump rally staple.
Meanwhile, other celebrity supporters attending include Logan and Jake Paul, Theo Von, Dana White, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner, The Neik Boys, Bryce Hall, and Megyn Kelly, according to TMZ. One of many celebrities who turned down invites was Dr. Phil, who will hang back in Texas and report on the inauguration with his news team live on his Merit TV network.
