The winners for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced on September 15 and were hosted by father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy with funny remarks at one another and a Schmitt’s Creek reunion. The big winners of the night included Shogun and The Bear.
The Emmys came twice this year since the 2023 ceremony was held on January 15, 2024, as it had been delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that took place that year. The Emmys often predict which TV shows may dominate at the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards. They also foretell the eveningwear trends that will take over in the coming months.
The evening’s red carpet did not disappoint, with many attendees opting for dark floor-length gowns, classic silhouettes, and column dresses. There were fun touches and elegant black outfits, from the subtle gold detailing of Laverne Cox’s vintage Alexander McQueen look to the sparkling pavé neckline of Selena Gomez’s Ralph Lauren halter gown.
Some of the best moments came in an altogether lighter shade: pink. There was the bubblegum shade of Meryl Streep’s pantsuit and pussy bow blouse and the dusty pink of Hannah Einbinder’s crepe jersey and tulle Louis Vuitton gown. Eiza González and Aja Naomi King, in Tamara Ralph and Giambattista Valli, also got in on the trend.
Below are the top five best-dressed of the night.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri stunned in a colorful Bottega Veneta strapless design (from the pre-spring ‘25 collection). The dress was covered in custom red, black, marigold and black starfish sequins. The dress featured a sexy slit that almost reached her waistline.
Nicola Coughlan
Nicola Coughlan arrived on the red carpet as a silver mermaid. The actress arrived wearing Prabal Gurung. According to Elle, the ensemble was a sequined mini dress that featured a sculptured neckline that circled her bare shoulders and a wide peplum waist, with a pencil skirt that reached her feet. Her outfit was accompanied by chic hair and makeup, with long blonde hair pinned back, and her blue eyes were showcased with rose eyeshadow and a coral lip.
Rita Ora
Actress and songwriter Rita Ora proved that it doesn’t have to be Wednesday to wear pink. She arrived with a pink strapless Tamara Ralph dress. The dress featured a sweetheart neckline with a cinched waist and skirt. The attire was completed with a flowing, feathery shawl. Her hair was styled in an old vintage style to frame her face, and her makeup was done by Alicia Martinez using Charlotte Tilbury products.
Matt Bomer
Wearing custom Brioni, Matt Bomer appeared wearing a plum-colored evening jacket in silk with a matching shirt, wool tuxedo, and patent leather loafers all tied together with a black cummerbund. The sharp contrast of the use of these colors works well, mainly because both of the colors are close enough in depth to complement each other while also offering visual interest.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph
Da’Vine Joy Randolph was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her appearances on Only Murders in the Building. She wore a custom-made bright yellow hooded gown by Sophie Couture. According to Marie Claire, the look was coordinated by celebrity styling duo Wayman Bannerman and Mich McDonald (known professionally as Wayman + Micah). The gown’s hood, draped over her wet-looking hair and into a plunging V-neckline, was the key element of Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s Emmy’s red carpet look. Her accessories included a diamond-encrusted Bulgari serpent necklace, consisting of multiple strands and two snake-motif heads, and two diamond tennis bracelets. When it came to her makeup, she opted for a silver and black smokey eye, red and rosy blush, and glossy nude lip.
