One of the biggest events of the year is happening next week! Many are highly anticipating the grand fashion occasion, the 2024 Met Gala, which will air next Monday. This year’s Met Gala hosts are Hollywood A-listers Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth.
Like every year, an exciting roster of celebrities will attend the event. Pop stars Taylor Swift and Rihanna—known to break the internet with her stunningly creative Met Gala ensembles—recently confirmed they’d be in attendance. Of course, Zendaya, Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Hemsworth will be there since they are the co-hosts and co-chairs of the event.
Page Six confirmed on Monday that the Style singer was, in fact, coming to the Met Gala, according to an insider. The announcement came one week after it was reported that Swift and her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, had declined their invitations to the famous fashion night. Although Swift is for sure going now, it’s unclear whether Kelce will be joining her on the red carpet.
Many more well-known individuals are rumored to be attending the 2024 Met Gala. Supposedly, supermodels Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Gisele Bundchen, Kill Bill actress Uma Thurman, the K-pop girl group Blackpink, and American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson will be there too.
Out of all the famous people said to be coming, confirmed, and rumored, a good chunk are hyped that the Umbrella singer will be there, given that she’s a supreme fashionista. Several took to X today, fka Twitter, to express that they had confidence that Rihanna would wear another outstanding costume to the Met Gala.
“No one and I mean no one shines brighter than Rihanna at the Met Gala,” one fan wrote on the social media platform.
“This Met Gala is Rihanna & Zendaya event anyway,” another added.
Even though the Met Gala is one of the biggest events of the year, some celebrities, like Pose actor Billy Porter and rock-star-turned-actor Jared Leto, are opting to skip it.
The theme for the 2024 Met Gala is The Garden Of Time. J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, which tells the story of Count Axel and his wife, The Countess, and their utopic life of art and leisure, inspires the dress code this season. Co-hosts Zendaya, Hemsworth, Lopez, and Bad Bunny, formally known as co-chairs, will be responsible for welcoming guests to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where the event is held, for an exhibition called Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion doesn’t pay homage to the cult classic Disney movie Sleeping Beauty per se, but rather honors the amazingness of clothing that is now “too fragile” ever to be worn again. Thus, the ensembles are resting as proverbial sleeping beauties in The Costume Institute, a center located at the Met. Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of The Met’s Costume Institute, included some pieces that date back to the 17th century in this year’s fashion display, per the Met, according to Variety.
