DaBaby Mentions JoJo Siwa In New Freestyle “Beatbox”

DaBaby

Rapper DaBaby takes his own twist on the #JuneBugChallenge, adding a hip-hop freestyle over the beat of the popular #JuneBugChallenge song “Beatbox” by fellow rapper SpottemGottem. DaBaby’s “Beatbox Freestyle” not only inadvertently overshadowed SpottemGottem’s original song “Beatbox,” but also sparked much backlash.

Throughout the two minute freestyle DaBaby flexed his wordplay, mentioning a few celebrity names to emphasize certain phrases in his music. T.I., Stevie Wonder, SpottemGottem and JoJo Siwa were the few name drops in the freestyle, the last-mentioned causing a big stir on social media.

Shortly after the freestyle dropped Twitter was in an uproar, calling out the rap star for calling 17-year-old YouTube superstar JoJo Siwa the B-word in his “Beatbox Freestyle.” Although DaBaby did say “you a bitch, JoJo Siwa (B***h),” the terminology used wasn’t directed at Siwa at all.

According to BuzzFeed, “ET explains that since DaBaby’s real name is Jonathan, and he uses “Siwa” as a twist on “See why,” him rapping “JoJo Siwa” is shortand for “Jonathan see why.”

On Twitter DaBaby also implied that the JoJo Siwa reference was just a mere play on words.

Ensuring that he made things clear, DaBaby also tweeted directly to JoJo Siwa.

“Don’t let em trick you into thinking I’d ever have a problem with you. My wordplay just went over their heads. All love on my end shawty, Keep shinning!,” DaBaby said in a tweet.

Additionally, DaBaby also tweeted to Siwa that his 3-year-old daughter was also one of her biggest fans. “My 3 year old princess is your number 1 fan. I bought her every product you have out. She think she you,” DaBaby tweeted.

Although much attention has been given to this song, JoJo Siwa has yet to respond to any of it. Most likely because she is still underage, but I digress. Nevertheless, it is good to know that DaBaby wasn’t in anyway referring to an underage teen sensation as the B-word.
