Travel Expert Explains How McDonald’s Comes In Handy When Traveling

When it comes to traveling, one of the most rewarding feelings is getting food in the local town that you’re traveling through, especially when you’re too used to regular home foods.

Despite that, just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean that the local restaurant or the food you try has to be fancy or spectacular. According to European travel expert Rick Steves, McDonald’s can be just enough for travel.

People often assume that having McDonald’s while on vacation is a failure, especially when traveling to exhilarating places like Italy or Paris. However, according to Steve, there could be many reasons to stop at McDonald’s while traveling, especially in foreign countries.

Currently, McDonald’s has over 100 countries across the entire world. Steve refers to McDonald’s as a quick, consistent crowdpleasing and cheap burger chain. He states that is exactly what you need after a long day of sightseeing. Steves also says McDonald’s operates in locations in hot zones and many major cities.

“Stopping at McDonald’s can be a fun way to dine in a great location with fabulous views without paying tourist trap prices,” he says.

Steve also points out that McDonald’s can be equally rewarding after seeing menus with different languages along with new food and views McDonald’s as comfort food.

“After days of parsing through menus in a foreign language and trying new foods at every meal, sometimes you’re simply craving the comfort of a good old burger and fries. There’s nothing wrong with that,” he stated.

Eating at McDonald’s and other fast food chains while traveling can be beneficial. It could save time and money after a long day of travel. McDonald’s has many international locations, and many of them are unique for its appearance and architecture. For example, in Paris, their McDonald’s is known as the world’s narrowest McDonald’s. Besides that, depending on which country you are in, there can be different menus at McDonald’s. Examples could be the Spanish McExtreme pulled pork or the Dutch McFlurry.

McDonald’s is a perfect place to see what the country has to offer and gives insight into its culture. Steve points out that Portugal’s passion for soup is evident on its McDonald’s menu. Now, despite the overwhelmingly positive McDonald’s, he doesn’t recommend eating it on trips every day, but it could be recommended for those who want simple, fast convenience.
