When Netflix dropped Wednesday, it wasn’t just another Addams Family spin off — it was a full cultural moment.
Gen Z claimed Netflix’s Wednesday Addams (Jenny Ortega) as the blueprint: sarcastic comebacks and the deadpan queen of the “goth girl aesthetic.”
We’ve already binged Season 2 twice, with the recent announcement of Season 3 creeping in.
Here are the top shows similar to Wednesday. They give off the same spooky and quirky energy we all know and love.
The Umbrella Academy (2019-2024)
Like the town of Jericho and Nevermore Academy, it looks like these outcasts are not the only ones with superpowers. The children of The Umbrella Academy have totally been there. The serious yet eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves trains seven adopted siblings.
They become a teen superhero team fighting crime. Years later, their father dies, and they reunite for his funeral. During the reunion, they find out that a global apocalypse is coming for them. The siblings have to find out the secrets of their adopted father in order to save the world.
Locke and Key (2020-2022)
Did you know that the Addams Family was originally a comic book series before it became a show? Looks like Locke and Key is the exact same too! Locke and Key has an identical tone, and their creative supernatural aspects do make both shows compliment each other.
Locke and Key is about Nina Locke and her three children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode. They all return to their father’s childhood home after his death, discovering supernatural keys that each give them powers.
While Wednesday’s main setting is mostly around Nevermore Academy, the mansion-like setting is similar to Locke and Key’s Keyhouse mansion. And they both hold secrets and layers of mysteries of the series, giving both shows a spooky and satisfying parallel.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018-2020)
Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is an incredible series because it offers another take on a familiar character! The series is based on a comic series with the same name. It follows a teen witch Sabrina Spellman, as she tries to deal with her double life. She is half mortal and half witch. She is essentially the supernatural Hannah Montana.
She deals with her witchcraft academy and her mortal best friends. The show is filled with plot twists, spooky, strange families. And Sabrina isn’t afraid to face all kinds of challenges from demons, warlocks, and even bullies. Even Wednesday herself would approve of this series.
Lockwood and Co. (2023)
When solving a mystery, a psychic ability will totally come in handy. It may cause a few black tears, just saying. The world of Lockwood and Co. is so ominous and dark, it might as well be in the same universe as Jericho. Full of violent ghosts and teens with fencing swords as part of their ghost hunting jobs.
They are a licensed ghost hunting agency, except their challenges isn’t just dealing with the dead. The living for these three teens is the most dangerous of all, which matches Wednesday’s exact energy. For this series, normal is definitely just an illusion. Even though it’s a canceled series, this show is regardless a much watch.
