You’d probably be lying if you didn’t admit to at least once wishing you could simply push a button and dinner would appear on your table.
Well, with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, that daydream is not that far off from reality. Food trends for 2025 are here to condense, improve, and ease your menu troubles. Robots in the kitchen sound like some premise of a sci-fi movie, but it’s the possibility for our future.
We already have robots that will make your beverage for you in places like Las Vegas or on cruise ships, but a robotics company is hoping to bring that same technology into our kitchens. Moley Robotics has developed a robot that mimics the skills of a chef. From cutting and dicing to measuring and pouring, the robotic arm can do it all and, in all probability, without the possible addition of errors caused by a human chef.
AI isn’t all about robots though. Some AI-powered apps for your phone can help you design a meal plan that benefits your health. Focusing on what foods to avoid and include in your diet can help you be the healthiest version of yourself all by using the knowledge of an AI assistant. You can even have AI guide you as you shop in your local grocery store with help in picking the right foods to eat to fit your fitness and health goals.
The next trend may not be as surprising. Social media heavily influences what and how we eat and cook. You can put that cumbersome cookbook down and open up your social network of choice to help you through dinner. Apps like TikTok, now temporarily free from the recent ban, and Instagram are all about quick and easy meal prep.
Our lives have become increasingly busy over time and as a society we need dinnertime to be without stress. Recipes from both celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver to unknowns, all have your next favorite meal idea in your feed. Reports from GlobalData Consumer Surveys show that 35% of Gen Z allow social media to heavily influence their food choices, more than any other generation.
And people want to get out of the house. Looking for ways to connect socially and in-person, society is hungry for food events like pop-up diners and food festivals. These forward-thinking ideas are great for those who want to try new foods with little commitment or try something rather than just watching it on a screen.
Tourists are evolving in how they choose their destinations as well. No longer are they only picking for that famous tourist trap or photo op, they are looking for locales that offer exclusive dining opportunities, festivals and items you can only find in certain places. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, nearly half of travelers, some 45% are picking travels spots based on their food options.
The next trend is somewhat of a continuation from years past. We are always focused on our health but this trend now pushes for foods that are functional. Kombucha, kimchi and CBD-infused foods not only will nourish you but will promote good health. Kombucha promotes gut health and immune system defense while CBD can help with anxiety, stress and certain diseases.
Finally, we are focusing this year on a growing trend of managing our global footprint in sustainability and the impact our food production has on our planet. Plant-based options are gaining popularity as many are eating from the earth and using all parts of an ingredient rather than discarding unused portions. This is “zero-waste dining” where all portions are used and the focus is on eco-friendly packaging.
