Inside Ashton Kutcher and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Friendship

As the drama continues to unfold with Sean “Diddy” Combs and the music mogul’s alleged involvement in sex trafficking crimes and racketeering charges, which has landed him in jail and awaiting trial, plenty of celebrities are being connected to him, some more directly than others.

Actor Ashton Kutcher and Bad Boy Records founder Combs have had a public past, documented online repeatedly. The two met and became friends when Kutcher began his reality show called Punk’d in 2003. The show was a mix of reality meets candid camera style and often placed well-known celebrities in uncomfortable and comedic situations. The episode would typically end with Kutcher and his production team letting the celebrity in on the joke. Kutcher got wind that Combs had interest in appearing on the show which aired on MTV for 9 seasons.

Now Kutcher is attempting to distance himself from the legal disaster facing Combs and he grows weary of the situation. A source telling The Daily Mail that “He feels Diddy would have no problem lying to authorities and tossing out some of his famous friend’s names if it meant it could get him out of jail.”

Authorities may be interested in what Kutcher could be privy to, considering how often he was seen with Combs and the source says that he feels Combs would try to gain leverage with the lawyers, “he could say anything, do anything or turn on anyone.” There is no indication Kutcher is complicit in the illegal activities of which Combs is alleged.

The duo were seen often partying with each other throughout the years. Typically, paparazzi would find them with other well-known celebrities hanging out at an awards show or a professional sporting event. Kutcher and Combs attended business conferences together and dined at restaurants. But most especially, Kutcher was a frequent staple at the well-attended and well-known “White Parties.”

The parties were typically invite only to the “who’s who” celebrities of the time. Combs hosted the lavish events in the Hamptons for about a decade before ending them in 2009. Big names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Paris Hilton, Jay Z, Kim Kardashian, and Beyonce would mingle with fellow heavy hitters in the entertainment industry such as agents and directors.

The parties initially began after Combs invited a few hundred people, including DiCaprio and the guest list included socialites, celebrities and even family members of Combs. What began as what Combs called a “down-home cookout” eventually turned into the extravagant parties. The parties had one rule, guests had to wear white in order to “strip away everyone’s image and put us all in the same color and on the same level” according to Combs in a 2006 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In a video that has now gone viral, Kutcher is interviewed by the host, Sean Evans of the show Hot Ones who asks about his days as a guest at the parties. Kutcher responds, “Wow. I’ve got a lot I can’t tell.” He pauses, seemingly trying to recall a specific event, “Ah I can’t tell that one either,” he says.

There are rumors that Kutcher and his wife of nine years, Mila Kunis are struggling with their relationship in light of the accusations against Combs. According to In Touch Weekly, Kunis is worried that her husband will be dragged into the legal tangle due to his noted connection with Combs.

The two are still settling from another unsavory headline when they publicly gave their support to their former co-star Danny Masterson. Masterson is serving a 30 years to life sentence after he was convicted of rape in September of 2023. Kunis and Kutcher had to back-track after they initially wrote character letters on behalf of Masterson, prior to his sentencing. Outrage came after the letters leaving the actors to retract saying, “We support victims. We have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future.”

Combs remains jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York, having two attempted failures at posting bail. He recently added two new lawyers to his team and has “come to terms” with being in jail according to his lawyer and is attempting to post bail again.
