Taylor Swift takes to Twitter to call out the writers of the Netflix series “Ginny and Georgia” for making what she called a “lazy, deeply sexist joke.”
In the season finale episode of “Ginny and Georgia” an emotional argument ensues when a worried Georgia inquires about her daughter Ginny’s troubling behavior. After Georgia finds out Ginny was secretly hooking up with her classmate slash neighbor Marcus from Marcus’ mother Ellen she instantly confronts her.
“What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift,” was Ginny’s response. The badly phrased tongue-in-cheek comeback that foreshadowed the deeper issues within the fictional mother-daughter relationship has now received backlash because of the incorporation of Taylor Swift.
Inadvertently, the writers of “Ginny and Georgia” have also sparked the creation of the hashtag #RespectTaylorSwift, in addition to getting a clapback from Ms. Swift herself. Let’s not forget that this is also all happening on the first day of Women’s History Month.
“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back,” Swift tweeted. “How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you Happy Women’s History Month I guess.”
Those in support of Taylor Swift also tweeted their thoughts, calling out the writers of “Ginny and Georgia” for also taking a dig at Lady Gaga.
“Ginny & Georgia literally turned into garbage from start to finish. The writers failed af to think that they could joke about such powerful and influential women, they’re REALLY stuck in the 90s. RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT and RESPECT LADY GAGA,” one Twitter user said.
Other supporters also made sure that there was separation between the actors and writers of “Ginny and Georgia,” absolving the actors from blame.
but also what we’re not going to do is attack the actors and actresses in ginny & georgia,, they probably had nothing to do with the script,, we’re telling the WRITERS to respect taylor swift.

The writers of “Ginny and Georgia” may have made some poor script decisions, however overall “Ginny and Georgia” is a great show with a complex plotline, strong character development and stellar acting.
