Country music superstar Garth Brooks is fighting back after an accuser came out alleging he raped her, among other things.
In court documents obtained by ACHDA Digital Media Generation, the accuser, named for legal purposes “Jane Roe” alleged that Brooks “hired someone” to “murder” her along with accusing him of sexual battery and rape. The alleged incidents that took place in 2019 and were filed in the California state court system as of Thursday, October 3. However, before Jane Roe’s complaint was filed, Brooks got ahead of the lurking lawsuit and filed his own complaint on September 13, 2024, in Mississippi after Roe’s lawyers’ sent him a “demand letter.”
According to the legal document filed in Mississippi, Brooks states the accuser began having “financial troubles” in mid-2020. She asked him for help and he complied, but shortly after, the requests for money became larger, with her eventually asking him for a salaried job with medical benefits. Brooks denied the request and Roe then accused him of sexual misconduct from years prior.
The “demand letter Brooks received asked for millions of dollars, and if it went unpaid, she would file a legal complaint listing allegations of “sexual grooming, hostile work environment accusations, unwanted sexual touching and sexual assault.” The letter marked the first time he had heard any of these complaints and he says none of it is true. In late August, Roe sent a second letter offering to not file the lawsuit but only if Brooks paid her millions.
In a statement, Brooks says, “For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face. Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of-ugly acts no human should ever do to another.”
He continues addressing his own lawsuit against Roe, “We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides. I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”
Roe claims there were several instances of abuse, one being a time when Brooks “grabbed her hands and forced them” onto his genitals as he exited the shower. Another time, she alleges that she was raped in a hotel room in Los Angeles during a work trip for the Grammys. Roe worked as a hair and makeup artist for Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood.
The couple just officially sold their Tennessee home one day before the news of the lawsuit came out publicly. The 5-bedroom home had been on the market since 2023 and was not gaining any interest. But after dropping the price a few times over the course of several months, the home sold for $3.34 million.
