In a lengthy battle, Drake, 37, and Kendrick Lamar, 36, have been exchanging shots since last month with diss after diss and claim after claim. Like any rap-diss-track firefight, you have some collateral.
This bitter and intense personal animosity, backed by provocative and intense accusations, has drawn in other artists and entire families. R&B star Sisqó, 45, was recently caught in the crossfire. The singer took to X, fka Twitter, on Sunday to respond to someone on the social media app comparing him to Drake.
“Drake is just Sisqo with better marketing,” a fan claimed in a post on X.
Sisqó’s reply was subtle, but also straight to the point. In the Dru Hill frontman’s retweet of the fan’s post, he attached a clip of Real Housewives of Atlanta alum NeNe Leakes, 56, from a throwback RHOATL reunion episode. The TV personality can be heard saying on the show, “Now, why am I in it? Now, see how I get thrown in stuff. I ain’t even did nothing.”
The early aughts music superstar’s use of the RHOATL clip demonstrated his confusion about the comparison and him being roped into the feud at all. Some don’t understand how the fan likened Drake to Sisqó when the former is a rapper and the latter is a soul singer.
Not to mention, their aesthetics are entirely different. Sisqó’s signature look was always his platinum-blonde Caesar cut and the bold fashion choices he rocked during his Unleash the Dragon days when he was on top of the world with the 1999 smash hit the Thong Song. Unleash the Dragon is a classic multi-platinum record that defined Sisqó as a solo artist, and put a specific type of underwear on the map with the album’s chart-topping song about thongs.
Sisqó is genuinely in a lane of his own, which fans explained when criticizing the fan’s claim that the Grammy-winning rhymer was comparable to the Incomplete singer.
“Sisqo had a whole line of underwear go popular off one song. Until I see Drake hit backflips, get underwear trending, and make it cool to have bleached hair while doing 2-3 spins during a live performance, I call [cap] on this,” one fan disagreed on X.
“You OBIVIOUSLY don’t know who Sisqo is for you to even tweet this,” a second added.
Another defended, “THE BLATANT DISRESPECT!!!” while a third agreed, “The disrespect. How about we DON’T put your name alongside Drake’s own? They’re rude, lol.”
“That man [Drake] has a quarter of Sisqo’s talent. Stop it,” someone else wrote.
Although both are amazing artists, Sisqó is unlike anyone else since he’s one of a kind.
