Following his three felony convictions, The Office of Disciplinary Counsel has recommended that Hunter Biden’s Law License be suspended.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel was created by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. It serves as the chief prosecutor for attorney disciplinary matters involving active or inactive attorneys who are members of the D.C. Bar.
According to Rule XI, Disciplinary Proceedings, any act of misconduct, including a conviction of a crime, is grounds for disciplinary action. The Discipline could ultimately amount to disbarment.
According to reporting by NBC news, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel sent a letter to the D.C. Court of Appeals, citing that Hunter Biden should immediately be suspended from practicing law in the District of Columbia.
On June 11, 2024, Hunter Biden was convicted of three felonies on federal gun violations, stemming from a gun he purchased in October of 2018. The convictions are as follows: unlawfully possessing a gun while being a drug user, lying on a federal form when he bought the gun, and making a false statement about information required to be collected by a federally licensed gun dealer.
President Joe Biden’s son is scheduled to be sentenced by no later than October of this year. He could face up to 25 years in prison. But being that he is a first-time offender, it is unlikely that he will serve jail time. President Biden has been asked by White House reporters if he will pardon his son.
The President has consistently said that he will not. The President was also asked if he would commute Hunter’s sentence. Again, the President’s answer was no. President Biden has stated that he loves and supports his son and is proud of the man that Hunter Biden is today.
This gun case is just beginning for Hunter Biden. As per the U.S. Department of Justice website, on December 7, 2023, the Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Robert Hunter Biden with three felony tax offenses, and six misdemeanor tax offenses.
The indictment states, that Hunter Biden for 4 years, engaged in a scheme in which he did not pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes, for tax years, 2016 through 2019. When he filed taxes in 2018, by filing false returns, he attempted to evade assessment.
Legal experts state that these charges are more serious than Hunter Biden’s gun convictions, and if found guilty on these charges, Hunter Biden could face up to 17 years in prison. Because Hunter Biden would not be a first-time offender, he would not be afforded first time offender provisions. Hunter Biden is scheduled to go to trial on these charges in September of this year.
We all head to the polls to vote for president on November 5, 2024. At the time of the election, we will have the Republican presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump found guilty of 34 felony convictions. Mr. Trump could go to prison. The former president will be sentenced on July 11, 2024.
We will also have President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden with three felony convictions. Hunter will also be on trial at that time for 9 additional criminal charges. Hunter Biden could also be sentenced to prison time for these additional charges.
Will those events sway voters one way or the other? Will voters blame Joe Biden for Hunter Biden’s convictions? Will voters decide that former President Donald Trump will not be able to perform his duties as president because he may be going into lockup? One thing is for sure: for many voters, the election can’t get here soon enough.
